Feather loss panic...

Hi all,

Rosie is 8 months old and has been going through a kind of "on and off" molt for the last 4ish months, where she loses quite a few smaller feathers at regular intervals, but tail and flights are much less frequent, she's only lost 3/4 the whole time. Last night I was with Rosie and she was a bit grumpy/restless. Then she shed about 6 of her larger tail and flight feathers at approximately 20 minute intervals! It was as if every time I turned around a new one had appeared!!!! It really freaked me out!!!!

Is this O.K.?

Thank you for reading,

Jessie and Rosie

P.S....
The feathers were not damaged in any way so I don't think she plucked them out. And other than her little grump she was normal, and was normal this morning...

Relax, it just sounds like a female that can't make up her mind...like "do I get a new 'doo now, or wait?"

Look at the end of the feather shafts & if you can't find any tissue, she's just going through her first molt.....maybe on her next molt she'll not be so helter skelter, but she is a female, didn't you say ? ? ?

I don't think you have any worries, I'm pretty sure she'll have her new 'doo in before New Years.....

Grumpiness during a molt is normal, heck even the males get a little testy then.....

Cheers Weco!

Haha your description did make me laugh! I can totally imagine her saying that. Well, she's an assumed girl, but she's definitely got the female charisma ;)

Yep the feathers all looked healthy! Thanks for the reassurance :) She's my first birdy so always being overly worried/cautious!

Thanks again,

Jess and Rosie
