We all know the dangers of putting a parrot in a cage with too large a bar spacing for fear of getting their head stuck.

A Budgie? No problem :) Their head is much too small...

Uh oh...:52: I think you can guess HOW Twigs accidentally got inside Raven's cage!

Perfect action shot below lol. Look at Twigs taking off!

Actually, I'm amazed that his ENTIRE body can easily get inside 1 inch :11:! He's small, but wow 1 inch?!!

Twigs is flighted and much too fast for Raven, so he'll never catch him. I do have to watch him closer with the Poi's though. Griffin has to be in his cage at all times when Twigs is out. Griffin is fast too, and will literally jump at him like a grasshopper.

WOW! I can't believe Twigs made it right through those bars! He was determined:) Looks like Raven was too occupied with his toy to pay much attention to him:)

Twigs is such a pretty budgie. I'm pretty sure that would have given me a heart attack.

Awwww... twigs was just looking to make new friends:D Poor Raven is making a whole lot of 'friends' as of late, like it or not:20: Maybe Twigs and Griffin should be friends and then everyone would be happy;):D

I'm pretty shocked Twigs got in there through the bars in the first place. When Raven reacted, I bet he got out 2x as fast as he got in huh?

Julie, that photo made my heart skip a beat until I looked a bit closer. Raven doesn't seem to be bothered at all by his tiny guest. It's great to see Twigs playing, even if he's up to no good. Can't believe he got through those bars.

I can tell you that it is SO MUCH easier and makes a difference that Raven and Griffin are buddies. They kind of babysit each other. Makes them feel like 1 1/2 birds instead of 2 lol. That, plus I have independent species which helps also. It would be nice if they were ALL friends though, but it doesn't work with older Poi's like Robin.

Raven actually didn't have too serious of a reaction towards Twigs. I already knew that, which is why I didn't freak out... Raven will not actively chase him down, he'll only snap at Twigs if he gets too close. In order to get Twigs out, I had to open the door and shoo him out!

Poor Raven... Griffin, and now Twigs must think of Raven's house as the neighborhood bachelor pad!
They just love it over there for some reason. His place is big, and has tons of toys inside, and a playground on top. The guys raid Raven's fridge and eat his food, drink his beer :52: take over his furniture...etc. No girls though haha :D ...and Raven doesn't even seem like the party type :52:. He's just not territorial in the least, which is why they take advantage.

Then there's the senior citizen (old man Red Bellied parrot) across the way that just shakes his head at those young guys... :D

I think it's just a red bellied parrot thing. Riley's breeders had 2 of them and they were in seperate cages because neither of them liked any other birds. Although I did get to hear about how the female would ask "are you ok" anytime someone got hurt and when one of the tiels would accidently land on or hit her cage (while they were fledgeing) the female would always say " Are you ok............. Damn it" I thought it was halirious.

Yeah, Poi's don't like other birds. Several members here with Senegals have mentioned in posts how theirs hated the other birds. Griffin my Ruppell's I think only bonded with Raven because I introduced him when he was new and only 3 months old. When I moved Twigs in the room and Griffin met him for the first time, he tried to kill him.

It's funny because when I was first looking into the Pionus when I first joined I had talked to a couple people in person who did bird rescues and such and was told that they really just need a cage like a cockatiel size and bar spacing which didn't seem right to me.

You're right, those were some ill informed people I'm afraid :( Pionus are big enough to have up to 1 inch. They can be up to 3 times heavier than an average tiel!

Yeah normally the bigger the bar spacing the thicker the bars and I would be worried if I had one in a cage even the size of Rileys that it could damage the bars.
