What's the best book?

I love the internet, but there is a lot of garbage out there. I also love books, but have you SEEN some of the outright lies that are printed in some of the books routinely stocked by petco, petsmart, and other pet stores?

Usually when people ask where is a good place to get info, I send them here to this forum, but I would really like to find a good solid BOOK to give to people, or at least recommend. I am talking a good, basic book that doesnt support millet spray as "a healthy part of a budgie diet" or say that birds can live in tiny cages, that they should be smacked on the beak, support flooding techniques, or any of the other crazy things that people who write books about things they dont understand often say.

Any suggestions? I am looking for any book, species specific or not, that you have found to have only (or at least MOSTLY) true information in it.

I like "Parrots for Dummies" Im sure theirs others ,but ive found that one a good reference

My favorite person is "Sally Blanchard " and her information.

My favourite general, beginner parrot book is "The parrot companion" by Rosemary Low.

As far as specific species, the range of "A guide to ... (black cockatoos, african greys, etc) as pet and aviary birds", are my favourite, and cover many species. (Many different authors, but all distributed by "Australian Birdkeeper").

Parrots for Dummies was my bible early one. It's very open handed - where other books present the author's opinion about 'hot' topics as though fact, Dummies gives the author's opinion but lays out the alternative viewpoint, making it clear that there isn't an unassailable rule. I have a book on cockatoos that explicitly states that no responsible bird owner would even consider leaving their bird's wings unclipped - that sort of thing really frustrates me. Dummies is also a great source of lists of safe and unsafe food, plants, what to do in emergencies etc, and it's well written and engaging.

Anyway, off to pick up my commision cheque from the author...

It was supposed to be out last year, but they didn't get it ready in time and with the trend headed more towards E-books, that may be where you'll see it, but here is the TOC of what was supposed to be available last year.....

The best training book you will find based on positive reinforcement, is called Don't Shoot the Dog!: The New Art of Teaching and Training, by: Karen Pryor highly recommend it to everybody. Its not specific to parrots, but it can be applied 100% to them. heck you can even apply it to your roommate or neighbor it works so well. I mean this book is my bible when it comes to training parrots.
