Playing at the shelter again:D Babysitting the shelter is such hard work;)

Jeannes african grey Storm! The only grey at the shelter that tolerates me...

This is Coco the funniest little Ducorps Cockatoo...

My voice is super annoying in these videos just a warning...

Maria hanging out with me... she wanted to give me a hard time in the cage but out we came anyway!

Pumpkin the little freak of nature. He has calcium deposits in his eyes so he can not see well... so he is very jumpy and skittish...chasing him down in between a bunch of cages was fun...

I also cleaned cages but figured pictures of that wouldn't be fun...but this is what I fed inside the house for fresh food mix...Jeanne needs to go to the market since she didn't have the usual selection for veggies and I couldn't make enough for the other building just the house birds.

It has quinoa, sprouted rice (brown, red, wild), cooked white rice, zucchini, pear, red pepper, orange pepper, yellow pepper, and red palm oil

lol thanks. I sometimes wonder if the birds show off in the hopes I stop saying their names in a high pitch voice:rolleyes:

Coco is a recent, just out of quarantine, transfer and we don't expect she will stay at the shelter long! Pumpkin on the other hand is really skittish. He actually got into the fireplace even with the covering on it...so I had to give him a bath which he was not happy about. Maria is going to be great for the person she chooses...so far she does like to pick on the shelter guys though:rolleyes:

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Pretty amazing working with all those different species, eh, especially the ones with the little handicaps you need to know about, and deal with. I bet you're learning a lot right now!

A blind, or nearly bird is a sitting duck for predators, so skittish is completely normal.

I am so happy that you get to babysit the birds there:) It always sounds like so much fun (except for all the cage cleaning!).
I so love Pumpkin...those Red Bellied just touch my heart. There is one at my friend's rescue who is also very skittish. She has scars all over her from cigarette burns. I do not understand people at all sometimes. But it is wonderful to see them start to come out of it and realize that there are good, caring people in the world.

Terry I do not understand people either. Mother and Jeanne went on a recent surrender and mother was literally holding the goffin the whole time on her chest willing him to live on the way to the vets office. He had a seizure and hyperventilated because his nares were closed over from dust/filth but is doing fine now though:D

Birdman you definitely learn a lot in a small amount of time!

I'm glad you guys enjoy the updates:D I like sharing babysitting days! Usually when I go over it is adoption days and it is always so busy there isn't time to take pictures.

I was going to ask what kind of bird Pumpkin was, but I see Terry answered before I had to :)

Such pretty birds, all of them!

Also, my dogs do not think your voice was annoying at all. They came booking it from across the house and wouldn't get out of my face until I stopped watching videos.

Just got back from babysitting the shelter once again. Didn't have much time for playing with birds and getting pics this time. I got just one bird in pics this time.

Nina the umbrella! I was feeding her and she climbed out so I played with her for a little bit:)

Nina was too much bird for her owners...so basically she is at the shelter because she was an umbrella. She is loud and headstrong. Show hesitation and she takes advantage. I was at the shelter again Monday all day and had her out again inside the house this time to spend time with her. She had a moment where she wanted to refuse to step up but all you had to do was say her name sternly and tap her foot and she stepped up. But show her hesitation or fear and it's over she will try to get away and boss you around. And Nina is very sweet just an umbrella cockatoo lol

I don't know the stories for the others. A few were transfers from another rescue but I don't know why they came into that rescue.

Love the photos and stories! It's great to see the work that you do with the birds, it makes me warm and fuzzy knowing about all these great rescues and hearing that the shelter works so hard to teach birds what real love is. :)
