Today I took back Ivan and Skylar to the shelter. Ivan is ready to meet adopters and he looks a whole lot better than when he first came home with me. Skylar is still Skylar he reminds me of Folger. Skylar is going to be caged in the quiet upstairs at the shelter and wait for the right person to come along. The good news is he isn't as cage aggressive so adopters will be able to talk to him in the cage now.

We brought home a sun conure pair, a brother and sister named Sir and Ma'am. The one is pretty friendly and the other is a little nippy. We are hoping with some work to become more people friendly they will be easily adoptable.

And I brought back an african grey named Bree. He is pretty funny and makes lots of different sounds. He is also a nice little cursing bird:rolleyes: Bree came in a month or so ago but he didn't catch my attention until he called me a mother****** while I was feeding him:eek: I was like did he just call me a... so I started talking to him the last couple times I was there and when Jeanne asked which bird I wanted to work with next Bree popped into my head. He needs a bit of work. He came in very angry and he has no idea how to step up. He stopped plucking at the shelter so hopefully he doesn't start again with coming home with me. He should become fully feathered again since the plucking was supposed to be a new thing when he came in.

If you touch his beak and make a sound he says a different kind of sound back instead of the one you said...that is why my finger is up in a couple pics. He is being surprisingly nice since he came home a couple hours ago....so we will see if that keeps up:20:

Sir and Ma'am are stunning, I bet they don't stay at the shelter very long. I hope Ivan and Skylar find the perfect home too. I'm in love with Bree, he's gorgeous. Isn't it strange to be cussed by a bird? I'm sure Bree isn't the first bird you've worked with that has such a colorful vocabulary. I've been told that if a parrot is not rewarded and if they no longer hear humans using the words they will stop using foul language. That's not always true. Sometimes parrots continue to repeat their favorite cuss words. It's sad that their ability to cuss sometimes costs them a potential home.

The pair has been at the shelter since at least February since that was when they were added to petfinder. Sometimes it is weird how certain birds stay at the shelter especially when you expect them to find homes really fast! These two aren't even one of the problem pair of conures they just need to be socialized with people again.

I don't think they ever forget though and the language pops up at random times. John has a rescue amazon that is his and the amazon was in a mood...so he bit John and then asked him; "Want more mother******". And they had never heard him say that before haha

Jeanne was the first to say Bree curses but none of us believed her since Bree doesn't really talk just makes noises. Then he cursed at me and I went down and told them what Bree said. Jeanne was like AHA I KNEW IT. Some of the things these birds start saying out of no where is just:52:

Then you have the ones that want to freak you out just for the fun of it... one bird has this deep male voice that he uses at 2am to say hello when you are letting the dog out...gives me a heart attack every time:eek:

Some pics from today!

The suns spent part of the morning on the stand in our lower living room. Got bit by both of them but they were stepping up just fine by the time they went back and were riding around on my shoulders for a little while. They will probably be sweet with a person once someone integrates themselves into the relationship. They can be in different rooms without going completely crazy trying to get to each other...as long as they answer each others occasionally contact call. They are also good with other conures. They accepted Loki onto the stand readily...Loki was the one that didn't want to hang out with them:rolleyes:

I realized I hadn't asked Jeanne how to tell them apart before leaving the shelter so texted her. The one with more orange&yellow is Sir and the other one is Ma'am.

Bree got a bath today! He looks less ruffled now:) He bit mother today but not hard enough to draw blood. I got him to step up by tricking him and he looked very indignant about that:p He has been saying is that good and thats hot...also a couple other things that I don't understand.

Right before he shook out his feathers
