I love hearing parrots talk. Currently, 2 of my 4 male birds talk (seems like maybe soon 3?), and of my past birds I had one other who talked.

Raven (Bronze Winged Pionus) is the only talker I've had who I find absolutely HILARIOUS!! The guy really has a sense of humor :D

It's both the things he says as well as the way his particular voice sounds...

1) First, he mimics a cough (on and on, can go on for an hour :52:) but it's a super high pitched cough, that's not MY cough LOL!

2) He says his name often... Raven, Ray, or Ray-Ray said slowly... Sometimes preceded or followed by "Hiii!" He likes to say HIII!!! a lot... and sometimes a cute hello like "HELooow". He also loves to say Good Boy.

3) He now LOVES to say "vegetable, vegetable...vegetable". I think he likes saying it more than eating it haha. I have been TRYING and trying to record him saying it, but I just can't do it in time before he stops.

The absolutely HILARIOUS part is that he often chases Griffin around while either repeatedly doing the high pitch cough, or saying vegetable, vegetable! He will do it to Griffin for example when Griffin is bothering him, and they're kind of pecking back and forth bickering. Coughing in his face and saying vegetable repeatedly as he's trying to back him off! He's a weirdo lol. You'd have to see it :D It's incredibly hard to get a video of it.

Also hilarious are the things that catch me off guard, like things he doesn't regularly say, or how sometimes he says things with a demon-like growl! Like when he said "Get Ouuttt!!!" Lol, maybe it's just the gravely Pionus voice that gets a little more gravely at times :52:

The other day was the real shocker... I have absolutely NO IDEA where he could have picked this up... Funny that he was saying it right to Griffin's face, "***hole, ***hole,***hole!" :11: Griffin just sat there an shrugged it off lol. I'm telling you, no way could he have heard that word in the bird's room! I could be mistaken in what I'm hearing but I doubt it, he's not 100% as clear as a Grey, but it was clear enough that it REALLY sounded like that! Don was of course cracking up when I told him. We never say that ever :54:... lol, and it was not ever said near Raven. Funny anyway!

I have 2 yellow naped amazons (Buster and Kitty) Buster says "Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty, come here, come here, come here, give us a kiss!

He sings Jingle Bells kinda funny, like this.

"Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the *way*! For some reason he sings **way** off key, not sure if his previous owner did that or he put his own little twist on it:D

He also sings Row, Row, Row your boat, gently down the stream! Merrily, Merrily Merril (trails off and doesn't finish) **Stream** is off key too btw..... :)

He once bit my Dad and then immediately said "Buster's a good boy!":D

These are hilarious!

Kiwi's a pretty quiet guy and doesn't have a whole lot to say usually. My favorite noise hands down is his goose honk. It's just super adorable:D And if you spend enough time around him, you can tell the difference between a joyful honk and a "I'm going to kill you now" honk.

He only says 2 words clearly- "hello" and "hi". He reserves "hellos" for when he wants something you have that he can't have (like a dessert or avocado) and with his chest puffed out, he emits a perfectly clear "Hello" in a deep mans voice. More like "look at what a good boy I am, now please give me that toxic food!". He makes a high pitched 'weeeeeeeet' noise as a show of appreciation when you give him a treat or a new toy. He reserves "Hi's" for the shower, which he makes in a little girls voice. He also likes to make the 'second half' of the wolf whistle, and implores you to play along making the first half. He babbles like an infant too, which is adorable and on occasion, I swear he actually says something or at least is trying to. Perhaps in his past he had a larger vocabulary (we don't really go out of our way to encourage speech).

When we first got him, I am almost positive he knew the, er, not so forum appropriate expletive that starts with "f" and ends with you:52::( He didn't say it very clearly, but it was pretty much the only thing he could have been saying. 'We ignored that and it's digressed more into a 'ert-ert' noise that just sounds like a bird noise to the untrained ear. He makes that noise only when he's pissed!

Parrots are so smart and so funny! The funniest thing Sundance says is at bedtime, when I'm covering up the cage. He gets a panicked tone to his voice, and says, "what are you doing???? what are you DOING??? WHAT ARE YOU DOING????!!!!" Then he'll quickly start spouting off his whole repertoire of all the things he knows how to say, hoping to distract me from covering the cage. Then Fiji will chime in, mimicking him.

Never a dull moment when you have birds in the house!

A long-billed corella I used to work with/babysit could sing all of "A whole new world" from Aladdin. All of it. His favourite though, was singing Aladdin's part, while somebody else (usually preferred them to be female) sung Jasmine's part.
I have video of it, somewhere, I'll have to dig it up :)

Harry says a lot of funny things, but one of my favorites is, Can't you fly?

Poppy got overexcited today and had to go back to her cage for a time out. When I put the cover over Poppy's cage, Harry yelled, Good Night! Harry also says, Thank you when Poppy gets a treat.

Harry has taught a lot of her vocabulary words to her flock mates. Yesterday when my husband and I returned home, we were greeted by three birds saying, Come here!

Omg, I'm loving the replies! Every single one of these are great! Made me laugh... I'd love to see all of that.

I was always wondering if Kiwi talked. I had no idea he had such a foul mouth at one time:eek:. I'm glad he's reduced the words to sort of a 'sound' now lol.

Mekaisto, that would be amazing to see a bird sing the ENTIRE Aladdin song :11:. The slender billed that I had (female) didn't say a word.

Guess whose going to be coughing and saying vegetable (when people start to irk me) now?!

I have no known-talking birds, so I can't really participate :/ unless a quacking noise counts!

My parrots don't really talk quite legibly, but Parry starts mumbling his name and some angry gibberish when I come to the kitchen at night and accidentally wake him up. :) When he is pissed off he starts mimicking the speech - you cannot really understand what is he saying, but you understand he is telling you he is annoyed. :)
Have you guys seen this video on youtube? It's hilarious:

I don't really buy into "bad" words, because whether using the curse word itself or some 'alternative', it STILL has the same meaning behind it, which is never a good one. I just wish he didn't feel the need to use that kind of 'language' at all towards his mommy, whether the english version or his bird noise version:(

You'll see what I mean here soon enough;) You'll hear Raven one day hollering (at Griffin) "Hey you little 'cough cough cough' get the 'vegetable' out of my cage before I nip you in the 'treats':54::D

That's true...

Hopefully that was the last time I hear Raven swearing at Griffin (I like to keep my boys innocent lol :21:) although he does deserve it a lot of the time :D

he starts mimicking the speech - you cannot really understand what is he saying

Robin does that. One of the times he does it is when he's nervous (waiting in the carrier at the vet's office). Thanks for the video, that was funny!

Oh Reid, please don't! People will think you're sooo weird! lol :18:

Ekko will run to his food dish, and then look into it, saying "Do you want this? NOOOO!" and then fling the offending food to the floor. When he is on the floor and wanting to climb Darwin's cage, sometimes he will stop and scream," DON'T DO THAT!!!" Then he climbs up anyway. Guess he just wants me to know that he knows he is not supposed to do it, and just doesn't care..lol.

Haha Terry, I'd love to see Ekko look in his bowl and says 'do you want this? Noooo!' That's hilarious!

I'm so glad I ordered that new cage, this one here has a gap big enough that Griffin LOVES to go into the space under the grate to the tray (and pick around in the debris:52:). He knows he will get in trouble for it, but just like Ekko, he doesn't care. I guess it's worth it to him lol.
NOW, he has Raven doing it too ! Raven will do it, then have the nerve to say "good boy!" I only tell him good boy when he turns back around and doesn't end up doing it.

Our Hahns Macaw that we have for a week now only says a few sentences and they must of come from his previous owner, first one is "What's up" then he might go into (not spelled out) "WTF" he also whistles the typical whistle to let someone know you are attracted to them, and the last one is "step up" He is a rescue that the pet shop took in because the previous owner became too ill to care for the little fellow, the bird also barks like a dog, he was in the pet shop that had puppies for sale, meanwhile my cats are slowly getting used to him,

Never a dull moment when you have birds in the house!

I've been trying to teach "what are you doing" for the longest time. Robin has said it only a few times successfully (all 4 words and clear) during the past several years. He hasn't tried saying it for a while, but usually he'll only say "doing". He's better at mimicking sounds than saying words. It must be too much for him lol. I think I've heard Raven mumble it a couple times.

Patches, my mom's Princess of Wales parakeet is actually a pretty good talker. He says full sentences and goes on and on, and does include "what'r ya doing?" Surprising for a grass parakeet that are usually aviary birds! I taught him to say the word "peep". He learned it right away. He sees me now and says "peep, peep!" Not the sound, but the word lol, it's cute.
