So I did find a good size cage for my Pi. And our vacation to Los Angeles is in one week... so I was thinking... should I get her used to sleeping in the cage for the one more week? Like, instead of putting her in her "home" for the night, I put her in the "vacation" cage for the night so that she gets used to it. I was thinking I could do this for the week so that when she goes with us, it isnt a complete shock for her to be in a new place with a new cage. And I was thinking, instead of getting her new perches and toys for the cage, I just put in her old ones so that she has a bit of home with her.

I have never been on a vacation with her, and I dont know if she has either. If anyone has any tips, that would be awesome! Oh, and tips on traveling too, we are going by car, gonna take us about 6 hours. She is going to be in the back seat with me while my dad drives and my mom in the passengers seat.

Thanks in advance!!!

How exciting!!! Only 8 more weeks till my vacay in Maine with my keet! I agree with you, putting her in her travel cage to get used to it might help. I did that with my keet when I first got her and knew that I travel a lot. So putting her in there at night might help. Put her favorite treats, toys and make the cage look as fun as possible, in there to coax her if she haves a hard time. good luck!

It's her first time in there tonight, and so far so good. I figured I put her in my room so she feels better and more relaxed knowing I am around. She seemed kinda unsure at first, she was bowing down and spreading her wings. But after a few minutes, she found her nighttime perch and is now very quiet. thank goodness!!

Wow Maine!! How do you travel with her?

Looks like your pionus will do just fine.

Well normally I have her travel in her travel cage. But since this is a 6-7 hour ride, I want her to be as comfortable as possible, I might put her in a travel carrier but we'll have to see what happens. Because when we get there, we don't check into the park until 3 PM. But overall I'm excited!!!!

yeah, its gonna take us about 6 hours to get to LA. I just hope that she knows she can drink out of her water bowl and eat. I will probably have to take some of her favorite treats along so I know she gets something in her system.

I think I might just keep this nighttime regime of going into the small cage at night. Her "home" is right in the middle of all the action and my dad gets up around 6ish, and she normally would get to bed around 9ish. She got a full 12 hours of sleep with that little cage!! If she didnt, she would sleep for the hours she lost during the day. But with her nighttime cage in my room, she gets fully rested. So we might just keep this going!

Nice, my keet loves her travel cage! The minute she sees it, she gets excited. I should teach her to say "ROAD TRIP!!!!" whenever she sees it. LOL!
However she's in my room at night, so she gets peace and quiet to get a full night's sleep.

Just an update on the Pi... It's our 3 day and she loves it! maybe not at nighttime, cause the buses roll by and make a lot of noise!! The most noise we have had so far, are gunshots. That made me wake up. My parents thought they were just cherry bombs, but I knew they werent... sure enough, the fire engine came, about 4 police officers, then the rescue, and then, the streets were closed off to assess the crime scene. All this happened under our noses. Thank goodness we are 8 floors up!! Right now, we are snooping a bit out the windows to catch anything happening. All the while, Claude is preening herself and eating some almonds and grapes.
During the day, I would sit by the window on the computer and she sits on my shoulder and looks out the window. She loves it! There is so much for her to see! She starts making these funny noises when she sees the flock of pigeons, pretty cute. So, so far, I think she makes a great vacation pet.
