Hey everyone,

I'm moving my quail from the brooder to an aviary today! I'm so happy for them; they need that room to run around in.

One 'dilemma'. I'll have some room left over; you know what that means... :D

It's a double-layer stacked aviary with lots of room. I'm contemplating which birds to get for it, and can't decide. I want low-maintenance, relatively quiet (they will be outside, and I have neighbors that will hear them), non-aggressive toward other birds, and I'd like a good mixture of birds to make it more fun.

Any ideas?

Mmmmmmm, dinner on the go! LOL Just joking. Put some pics of your quails up! :p Would love to see them. Maybe you can start a parakeet colony? Just don't put any places or spots where they can breed. If you're looking to getting one bird, a cockatoo?

Hmm, in my wildest dreams I'd get a cockatoo. But they don't fit the 'quiet' nor the 'low-maintenance' category.

Parakeets are a good idea, but they still might require a lot of attention.

I'd prefer to stick with either a game bird (pheasants, quail, etc.) or a fringillid (member of the finch family) due to their low-maintenance nature.

I used to have a large flight with society finches and Zebra finches. They are both beautiful types of finches and compatible with each other. They are also both compatible with diamond doves and quail.

Good tip given here by Lindsey. Maybe you can do a combination of the diamond dove, zebra, and society finches? It's all up to you!

Thank you for the link, Lindsey. I love that website.

That's so cool, you handraised a finch? I've read that it's extremely difficult to do, and is not reccomended for the first-time handfeeder. I'm sure Beeper was a lot of fun. :D
