Toulouse- Cinnamon Green Cheeked Conure
Everytime I go to Sunnyside to get flower and plant related items, I see their 'Famous' Blue and Gold Macaw named Sunny. This bird, the most talkative funniest bird, lives in the poorest conidtions ever.

I had never really noticed her living conditions until a few weeks ago when I went over to her to say Hi. I picked her up and stroked her, and she seems friendly enough, but I am apauled by how she is living. Her ROUND cage, is smaller than my Conures, FILTHY, with feces covered wood shreddings at the bottom, and a couple sandpaper perches and a toy. I asked the clerk what they fed her, and he said: "Bird seed and peanuts. Sometimes we'll give her an apple slice or two." :11: I was just shocked. Mostly, because they have a Pet area in the store, and because it's HIGHLY likely that they have never done any research on the breed. This store is starting to disgust me. My ten year old neighbour could take care of a bird better than that.

Once I got home, I wrote them a letter that included over 10 pages of Macaw info and how to take care of the parrots. I got a letter back saying: Thank you for your consideration. -Sunnyside.

I went back the other day and noting has changed exept for there was some veggies and clean water. I plan on going back in the next few days and talking to the manager and such if the bird hasn't been properly cared for.

That is rather disgusting. Good for you to stand up for the bird. I would definetly check in with the store every now and then, and if there is no inprovement I would report them.

Good for you, proud of you !!!!!
If distance and time is not a problem, pop in daily, let them see you are damn serious. While in the store, mention a simple thing or two about caring for the birds.
Explain if the cage is not cleaned daily, some birds roam at the bottom of the cage and eat their poops. This could lead to diseases and illnesses.
Speak for our feathered friend's that can't speak for themselves.

Well, kudos to you! Why don't you contact a local bird club and see if anybody there is willing to write more letters and pop in, as well. The more people that make a comment, they more results you will get because stores don't want to lose their clientele and while one person's opinion might be put down to 'just a bird nut', if there are more people saying the same thing, they will pay attention.
