Gosh, that is so sad! I feel terrible for both women - it's like losing a family member, just like one of them said. :( And yes, someone HAS to know something. I hope they get their birds back!

And David, your picture cracked me up, despite the grim news.

That is terrifying! I hope they can find those stolen birds, how horrible for their parronts:(
Makes you wonder how they knew there were CAGS in their houses? Must have watched those houses beforehand.

Yeah, and mine have been going out in the tree in the front yard for five years. Everyone in the neighborhood knows I've got them...

And we've already been broken into twice.

I'm double deadbolting, but this is getting very scarey...

Can you add some cameras? Something to maybe deter the thieves? We put in a security camera at our front door last year when we had a peeping tom, and it stopped. We got one from Best Buy that hooked up to my tablet, and it was only just over $100 here. I'm sure it would be cheaper there.

That is awful:( I almost wonder if this is some kind of misguided attempt to "free the birds" by delusional activists. Are all your birds free during the day? Caged birds would be like sitting ducks for thieves, but 5 free birds and a big flighted greenwing and amazon in "protecting their flock from danger" mode may be a deterrent for any would-be thieves in your house.

They seem to be specifically targeting CAGS for some reason.

And I don't think they're setting them free.

Up here, there's thieves stealing people's dogs right out of their yards. One lady found her dog then for sale on craigslist. So keep an eye out on the local craigslist for the parrots. Sure, they all look similar, (which I'm sure the crooks are banking on) but a bird's owner knows markings that make them stand out. Not to mention the words they know.

That is a scary situation, regardless. :/

That's terrible! I just followed up on the news link that Birdman666 posted and on the comments section there someone had mentioned that there were 2 African Grey adds posted within 4 days of each other. Both ads have the same contact number but different pics and different text. Hmmm...could be a coincidence but I sure hope the local authorities at least look into it.

san antonio general for sale - by owner "african grey" - craigslist

Yeah. I've had an eye on Craig's list.

I suspect this as well... but with this being so high profile, would they be that stupid?!

I'm wondering if they don't have a buyer lined up first, and THEN go steal the bird. They are targeting specific birds here...

Yeah Birdman666, you're probably right. It would be a stupid thing to do. Let's just hope they actually ARE that stupid!

GOD, I HOPE SO, CUZ I'D LOVE TO CATCH THESE @#$%*&!!!

I'm sure the cops have thought of that angle. The other place they frequently sell birds around here is the flea market.

And as I recall there is someone trying to recruit birds for a parrot auction... there is a tip to call in to the hotline! I've got to find that one... cuz someone was pestering me to try and put Maggie up for auction...

YEAH! RIGHT... LIKE THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN... EVER!!!

Okay, I just checked, Parrot Auction was March 7... already happened. Not a motive.

This is so awful . Devastating for the owners. Mark, I'd definitely install cameras and a sign saying under surveillance. Is there a backyard or side yard where you live, so the birds aren't so visible outside? It's a shame we have to be paranoid and scared.

I saw that one, but the identical ad was up prior to the time of the theft, it's a re-post. The other CAG was a plucker, so the pics don't match. I think this one is a legit ad.

My bird room is my front living room.

My big oak tree is in the front yard. No trees at all in back.

And I'm not taking their tree time away from them. Everyone already knows I've got them...

Your house has been broken into twice already?...have you considered trying to find a better area/neighborhood? Not saying your neighborhood is bad, but being broken into repeatedly seems like its not good situation there.

I hope they get caught soon. I wonder how seriously the police are taking it. After all its just a bird.

Note: I don't think that way but many do.
