Im not a really early morning person and am looking for a cage cover that best keeps out the light. After doing some research it seems a lot of commercial covers don't keep the light out very well.
What do you guys use? And what works the best?

I have always used a bed sheet to cover cages here. You could get a dark color if you want to keep out the light.

I use a bed sheet as well. It does get chewed up and needs replaced after 3 months or so.

I also use bed sheets. What helps is the room has a darkening shade on the window. Not a blackout, but keeps it from getting bright. Even if they wake up while still under the covers, my birds are still quiet. I'm sure that's not true with all birds though. Depends on the individual. Using a dark color should help too.

I got a dark navy cotton blend bedding set from Walmart for about $8, and the two sheets are enough to cover my 3 cages. I'm also a night owl, and just get up to take off the covers and go back to bed, LOL

We also use dark blue bed sheets. We also have black out curtains so when I get up, I open the curtains, remove the sheet, open the cage door, all before I make myself a cup of Joe.

I've never in 25+ years saw the need to cover a cage for any reason.

One of my avian vets says the same thing. I never used to cover. Robin has been uncovered most of his life, so he still objects.
It's just personal choice... My reason is that if I didn't cover them, they would wake me up too early in the morning!
