Sorry for another "breeder" question...

Anyone ever work with (have the scoop on) DJ Feathers in Virginia?

I asked this recently because I went out to visit them. Very clean, lots of birds on display that appear to be well cared for. One of the owners personally spent about 45 min chatting with me, helping me explore and research various species I was interested in. For a price (I'm certainly willing to pay) they harness train your baby.

It did strike me as odd, however, that for as many as they have available, they don't seem to have room for what you would assume would be breeding pairs. I certainly didn't see any made me wonder if they were more a broker rather than breeder.

Is there a general consensus on whether brokers are to be avoided? I know I'd love to give them my business, based on prices, customer service, and variety of options, but if there are issues with brokers I'm open to hearing them.

Chris, no, not all brokers are 'bad' people, LOL, and I sure hope my post(s) didn't came across as such. There are many out there who care deeply for their baby birds, and make sure the little ones are cared for properly, as well as socialize them. :)

There are bad breeders just like there are bad brokers. Trying to gather as much information from either before making a commitment is important IMO. Call them, ask questions, and many time you'll get a clearer picture of what they are about when talking to them in person. I'd always encourage to ask questions on health guarantees.

I have been there. They are a great shop and really knowledgeable. And we almost purchased a bird from them. However, we did experience a few issues with them during the sales process and their lack of communication. The best advice I can give you is that if your are ordering a bird from them, be very explicit in what you want and the timing... have it spelled out on your deposit slip.
