Hi everyone,
Recently my family and I decided that it is time to get another parrot. We use to have a blue and gold so we know how loud they can get and also when they reach the biting phase...

We decided to choose a medium size bird this time and I have done some research on the amazons vs alexandrine. Amazons are good talkers and they are sweet and according to the google the mexican and red lored are more quiet then the other amazons. Of course each birds have their own personalities .
Alexandrines are not as cuddly but still have awesome personalities and they go through the bluffing stage as well. I read that they can be quite loud.

We have our own house and we use to have a B&G which can be quite loud but we haven't had any complaints from our neighbors. ( We currently have a new neighbor so we don't know how they are..)

MAIN POINT!
We are looking for a bird that is a little bit more quiet than a macaw and cockatoo. I know that all birds can become loud when ever they want which is fine since we are somewhat use to it BUT we do prefer one that makes the LEAST noise out of the category. We are also interested in one that is most talkative. Also as for the bluffing phase I have my fair share of scars from my B&G so I do not think it should be a problem. But out of the Amazons and Alexandrine what do you guys think would be suitable for my family?

Feel free to throw in other type of birds as well! Thank You!:blue1:

Welcome! I have a Mexican Redhead and he is non stop noise, not kidding. He talks, screams, cwhistles, laughs, flock calls, greets me when I walk in the door, says Hello to everyone and everything, let's you know when he's hungry. I joke that he would make a great Walmart greeter, lol. I know when our second parrot is doing something, he tattles by his sounds. Buddy is a one person bird and I'm the only one that can handle him. Took him to the vet, he's well known at the vet, everyone knows when he is there because it's all hellos when he walks in, then screaming and growling when the vet towels him to examine him. Buddy has no patient privacy because he doesn't shut up, lol.

My second is an eclectus, now she's quiet with the occasional call. She's stealthy and I have to keep an eye on her because she's so quiet. She will let other people handle her too. Wonderful parrot, but ekkies do require a very fresh veg and fruit diet so they do have some different needs. I think amazons are fun, Buddy is a character and he gets loved and admired by the family from afar. With me, I can pretty much do whatever I want to him so he and I are always together.

My parents have a mexican red head who barely makes any noise (only time is when you mention his favorite treats or if his 'mate' has been out of his sight for a while, he will call out for her). Even his loudest contact calls for his 'mate' are no where near the volume of the cockatoo. Not to mention Barney is just about the sweetest parrot you could EVER meet in your whole life:). He will go to anyone, he takes such good care of his 'mate' (a female double yellow head) and in his 40+ years on this planet, he has never bit anyone. He is an absolute sweetheart and a real gem of a parrot that everyone adores.

I haven't spent too much time around him, but I have bird-sat out landlords (adult) IRN a few times. I don't know much about their bluffing stage, but that little bird can definitely give my male blue front amazon a run for his money in the noise department. Don't know if the volume is quite as loud as an amazon on 'full volume', but "Baby" is constantly vocalizing. He makes adorable noises in addition to a much larger vocabulary than any of the amazons I've been around (my parents 2 don't speak at all though and mine is a rescue who only says a few words). Typically though, amazons are known for being better talkers (keep in mind not every individual will though).

Buddy missed the memo that he's suppose to be sweet and quiet. I say he is sweet and he is with me. If Buddy was a kid, he'd never win the quiet game. Please don't take that as a negative, I love his personality and for me he is a love bug.

Oh wow. Thank you for all your wonderful stories about your birds. I think I am moving towards a mexican red head. I will continue to do some more research as well haha.
