It's Scheduled! A Possible New Addition!

As some of you know, I discovered a Blue Crown Conure on craigslist this month and my husband has agreed to go see him! What you may not know is, he has been giving me a hard time about another bird. :11:

Well, I have had the worst time getting emails back from the current owner. I emailed her 2 days ago and she finally got back to me last night about a meeting time. So it's official! We go see him on Tuesday at 7pm! :D

I asked her a lot of questions in my email. I actually have a list of questions I have asked all the current owners of my rehomes to answer. I find it helpful and it let's me get to know the bird better if I decide to bring them home.

So here is what I've found out about this little guy:

His name with the previous owners was Sid but she has been calling him Blue. I was thinking about Sidney for a name before I knew his name was Sid, so this may be meant to be! ;) She has had him only a month. She "rescues" birds who are no longer wanted or in bad situations. Works with them and finds them better homes. She believes his previous owners have not done much with him. Another case of social neglect. My macs have been there, done that! He is timid but is not a "biter". She has no idea when the last time was he went to the vet. He is not "sexed" a male but the previous owners said he was a male. He's a bit skiddish but coming around for her. He loves hanging out on her shoulder out in the garden. So he loves being outside.

So what is your guys opinion about this little guy?

Here is a pic of him. I think he is quite cute! :D

For those of you who don't know, I adopted two Linnies from a breeder in 2013. I was hopeful getting them from a breeder would be helpful in getting well socialized Linnies that could interact with my children. Well one of them never got over being hand shy, even with our attempts to change that. They really did not want to "hang out" with us, but were quite content with hanging out in there cage together. They just did not enjoy being handled. I am not one to own birds to watch them, I like to interact with them. Since my kids lost interest in the linnies because they couldn't interact with them very well, I ended up doing all the care and the linnies really didn't get a lot of attention. So I made the decision to rehome them. I found a great home with a woman who owns other Linnies. I think it is a home better suited for our little Linnies. So sadly, I said goodbye to them last Saturday.

I rehomed them with the understanding I would try to find a more interactive bird that I would enjoy more (hence my bird, not the kids! :09:) and could still possibly interact with my husband and kids. Of course my hubby gave me a bit of a hard time at first. But I told him that I would keep bugging him until he said yes to another bird. :D;) So I was quite surprised that he agreed to see this little guy. He wants to try to be the one to handle him. I am hopeful that this guy will come around and can be handled by all of us. But if we can't ALL handle him, I know conures are a lot more interactive with their humans so I am hopeful it will be a win win either way!

Oh Blanca, Sid(ney) sure is one VERY handsome little fellow!!! What a pretty BCC!!! :D I am so glad she finally got back to you, too!

Knowing you (and your awesome family), you'll have this little guy as sweet as pie in no time at all. Look what you've done with Coqui & Savannah! :D

Isn't he just an adorable little guy! The current owner is very picky on who she adopts her birds too. But I think I got what it takes. Hee Hee! ;) I really do think with some love, socializing and some attention, this little guy has some great potential! :D

I tend to 'go with my gut' on things and when I saw the name coincidence, I thought 'ah, maybe meant to be'! So, see what happens Tuesday but it's looking pretty hopeful from my perspective. :) And of course, blah blah blah, I'm biased and love Blue Crowns.

The name thing totally made me feel it was fate. LOL! ;):D I think it's sounding promising, too! I love that you love Blue Crowns! If I do adopt this little guy, I will have a good resource. ;)

I think it is good not to have too many expectations about what the bird will be like with you or the family. As i have read many peoples experiences with their birds, if you have certain expectations they could potentially let you down. Then lead to rehome situation.

Each animal has its own personality, and it could take awhile for it to really show! Good luck with your new family member! :blue2:

Blue crowns are great birds, I had one for many many years. He was quite the character and very intelligent. I very much want another one, but that won't happen until my my current flock of 5 is down to just 1 or 2 and that could be many years from now.

I'm sure Sid will be exactly what you want.

I agree with you on that. He is who he is and we will be happy with him whether he interacts with all of us or not. ;) I have rehomed more then one bird, so I feel comfortable with the situation.

Thanks Rockford! We are looking forward to getting to know him. :)
