I am well aware of the damage irresponsible pet owners who let their dogs roam free can do...

You can't blame the dogs for being dogs, BUT... as an owner you're supposed to control them.
I agree 100% and now the owners are petitioning to get their dogs back. It's very unfortunate, the pray drive in some breeds is just so strong. The owners should pay for all the damage and the cost to replace the birds. Of course you cant "replace" a well love family member, but they should pay anyway. I hope there is an update to this story.

I will not open old wounds by watching the video, but endorse it in principle as a cautionary tale.

While any dog can revert to instinct, I no longer have dogs that have a strong prey drive. Great Danes have proven very safe, as well as a Schnauzer and Brussels Griffon.

I agree I couldn't look having seen it in person.

Re: Owner Devastated-Graphic images-footage

I didn't watch, seeing the photo was enough. I have a 70lb bulldog, and two 20lb pugs. I share their weight because while my dogs are lazy, we had a close encounter where the bulldog almost sat on Buddy, he didn't know he was there. I snatched him up before he got flattened. Now my parrots can only be with me, or on a designated perch, or their areas like cage, play tops, not on furniture, floor, etc. Even though my dogs seem gentle, I don't trust them. They have a natural instinct, haven't seen it kick in but I don't want it to.
