If you had the opportunity to add another parrot, would you

a.) stick with the species you know or
b.) Try something new?

I'm in no hurry to add to my flock - but sometimes I wonder, if I did, would it be in the form of what I know already, or would I diversify?

What would you do?

I think I also would go new species. But to avoid hellfire from the family, I would have to make it look like I was the fid's last chance!:rolleyes:

Objectively, I would get a new species just because each one has something special about it that it would be so nice and rewarding to experience. However, if I had my heart set on a particular bird, I would get THAT bird regardless of the species. I was searching for a mini macaw when I met my sun conure and he had other ideas ;)

Hmmmm.... lets see, if I ever considered a second parrot I would probably start looking for a shrink lol:30:!

In all seriousness though, I would likely stick with amazons. I'm comfortable with their size (not too big, not too small) and temperament (stubborn and not overly needy). I know how to deal with them (firmly), I actually like their personalities:52: and I honestly think a zon would be the only species Kiwi wouldn't clash with. I think any bird more sensitive than him that he could bully, who was smaller or bigger (big, bad bird complex, he has) he totally would. Another zon would likely keep him in his place and we wouldn't have too much problems. He got along fine with my mom's zons because her female would've beat his butt if he acted up and he knew it:p

Hmmm I'd probably get another amazon if I specifically went out to get another bird but working with a shelter who knows what I'd bond with next in reality!

Thanks guys! I'm surprised how many would go for another species - wasn't expecting that! And intrigued by the amazon owners leaning in towards other amazons lol. It's not often parrots are available as rescues here but I certainly keep an eye out. I reckon I'd be torn by another ringneck because they feel 'safe', I know what I'm doing with them! And I like sets of things - silly reason I know but two next to each other look incredible. They can speak the same language. On the other hand I'd love a conure for the cuddles factor, although rest assured I know it's not a guarantee! Just another dynamic. I think I'd look seriously at both and then choose what I felt like I had bonded the most with - not unlike a first parrot I guess!
