Should I get a baby pigeon and continue handfeeding it?
Or a tame and handfed parrot instead?
Any advice?

Here's the link I found, Pigeons As Pets: Outside or Indoors | Palomacy

According to them, "Domestic pigeons and doves make great pets. Good natured and mellow, they love both their own kind and people and they are easy to care for. They’re quiet, smart and social. They don’t bite, pluck, or chew and are low maintenance pets. They are masters of the leisure arts – napping, flirting, sunbathing and nest sitting. And they need homes! Domestic pigeons and doves cannot survive in the wild."

Is that true? So even adult pigeons from shelters/rescues won't poke at me or fly away from me? Or should I get a baby one from a breeder on craigslist?

All pigeons are individuals with high intelligence & complex emotions. Just because you raise a baby doesn't mean you won't be pecked, wing-fu'd or avoided. Domestic pigeons are calm & tolerant but people need to earn their trust & friendship. It's important to recognize that birds (of all sorts) have their own preferences, agendas & interests. They aren't like dogs. They don't seek approval from their people nor conform to their wishes. We always encourage potential adopters to foster first in order to understand the reality of living with pigeons. And please- don't buy from a breeder when there are wonderful pigeons of all kinds literally dying for want of a home.

I don't know anything about pigeons, but wow those sure are beautiful! Good luck in your decision.

How about getting a pigeon AND a parrot? :)

We got a pigeon awhile back and he is really mean! He was handled since he was a baby, but he still is mean and pecks at us every time we are in the same room with him. We named him Coojo, if that tells you anything:)
Also, I was wondering if you have experience handfeeding? It is a difficult job and so many things can go wrong if a person isn't experienced.

Do you have any photos? What happened to it?

Coojo is beautiful Terry! I love the irridescent feathers. Too bad he has such a bad temper! I never stopped laughing at his name, Coojo! It's perfect, spelling and all :D

Thanks, Julie:) I am hoping his new home works out wonderfully for him. I think he may not be as grouchy with a friend:)
