New adult Hawk Head...amazing

This is the end of day 2.5.

I was just reclined in my computer chair with my hands cupped about midway down my belly. Nike came from my shoulder to my hands and laid down. I've noticed that if left on her own, she tends to crash about 8-830.

I then cupped one hand over her head to make it dark and see how she'd react. She stayed still as I expected she would and then to my surprise, she put my finger in her mouth and was tonguing it.

I waited a minute and then with my other hand I went to pet her body, she squeaked a couple of times, rolled on her back and opened her wings to give me her belly to rub. I called my wife into the room and she was also able to rub her belly which really surprised as I expected her to jump up once I removed my hand.

Amazing how quickly she is bonding.

Wow, what a sweet surprise! Nike is obviously already very comfortable in her new home.

So we left her alone today while we went to see the grandkids for Christmas.

Despite her willingness to be with me, I was feeling a little bummed that she seems to be a ladie's bird and gets very talkative and excited around females and not so much with me.

Tonight was a little better. She was really excited to see me and was treating me the same as my wife...maybe even a little more attentive to me.

It must be a lot of changes for her and while she's taken to us pretty well, I bet there are still better things to come.

Again at 8:30 she was done. I could have kept her up and she would have been happy to be with us but I could also get her to almost fall asleep in my hands if I started cuddling so it was time to put her to bed.

We live in New Hampshire and usually keep the house cool, like 60 at night and 65 during the day...my Amazon was quite used to it. To help Nike acclimate I purchased her a heated perch. She hasn't yet slept on it but I have caught her sitting on it from time to time so I think as it gets colder (it was an incredible 65° today) she will be drawn to it. I checked the temp with a gun and it seems about right at the advertised spec.

Another great day with Nike.

You guys are going to think I'm crazy but Nike is almost too good. After having an amazon for close to 40 years there are times when I miss the noise and the attitude....crazy right?

But then I could never snuggle up to her like I can this sweet thing.

Oh my goodness! I'm melting here! What a complete snuggle bunny your gorgeous Nike is!!! SWOOOOON!!!

I hear you. I'm torn with my eclectus: he's everything I wanted in a parrot, quiet, not super needy, independent. He's pretty socially low maintenance, which suits me to a T. Just lounging around with us is fine with him.

Flip side of that being I sort of miss the clowny nature of my old conure: active, inquisitive, cuddly. And my ekkie is not cuddly like this. He's very much a chill on the shoulder kind of guy.

It really highlights how different individuals can be.

Yea, too bad we cant just sugar them up when we want (like I do to my grandkids)

Funny I said that I wanted her to me a little more crazy.....last night she ate a lot while on her play stand....she has been a very light eater but last night she ate a bunch.

She then was very active, kept climbing from my shoulder to my head over and over, regurgitating, and performing her happy dance....almost a hint of PITA Amazon...I had fun!

We've only had her about 10 days so I'm hoping that she will settle in and eat more and maybe be a bit more active. I have been home for 2 weeks and have devoted almost all my time to her and that will stop monday when I go on a business trip. She seems to be fine in her cage so the lack of attention shouldn't affect her much as long as my wife stops by the cage a couple of times a day and interacts with her.
