I thought it would be fun for new parrot owners and us old timers to reminisce about some of the best talking parrot stories that we have experienced over the years. Could be from your current birdies or from birdies that have passed over the bridge. Not a who's kind of bird talks better thread, just funny anecdotes. It will be fun to remember and for new members to have something to look forward to.

My old Yellow Nape, Winston, was a real good talker and also made sounds, easily equal to an African greys. One time I was working in my basement and I heard the upstairs digital phone ring. And ring. And ring and ring and ring. I shouted up the stairs to my ex wife " Would you answer the f...ing phone!!! " And she shouted back down " It's your F...ing BIRD !!! " . It was things like that and imitating our baby daughters different cries that endeared Winston to her ( heavy note of Sarcasm here).

So lets hear about your birdies amusing utterances ! I know I've read somethings here already that have made me shoot milk through my nose as I was reading them.

I was at my parents house and some of my relatives were there. We were watching Star Wars, but paused it to get dessert. My dad had brought Bell, his sennie, to meet the family. Apparently my parents had been watching Zoolander the night before. To everyone's shock, he suddenly shouted in this weird voice "Blue Steel!" Everyone was so shocked we all just had a moment of silence.

Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Goofy doesn't talk much anymore. He mostly mutters under his breath. He has a few funny things though. During the day there's usually somebody around, but occasionally all the people are in other areas of the house (the house is huge...first world problems, I know). If it's daylight, Goofy objects to not having somebody in eyesight. He expresses his displeasure by saying "Hi, Goofy, Hiiiiiiiiiii!" at top volume over and over again. He also apparently objects to MrC talking on the phone, whether or not he's in the same room. The second MrC gets on the phone, the bird starts.

The second funny thing he does isn't G-rated, so I'm going to do my best to obscure it so the adults can fill in the blanks. Apparently, before MrC got him, he was exposed to a certain type of movie that can only be legally seen by people over 18 and aren't shown in traditional theaters. Every once in a while, for no apparent reason, Goofy will mimic the typical over-the-top sounds in those movies. If we happen to have guests at the time, it's really quite embarrassing.

Another funny story, though one that isn't mine. A friend of mine likes to tell the story of the parrot a friend of hers has. He was a rescue parrot, and came to them in pretty bad shape. It soon became apparent that the language the people in his first home used would make a trucker blush. That wasn't the worst thing though. The people also apparently really liked the movie "The Exorcist" or liked to say certain phrases from the movie. This became known when he quoted from the movie during a bible study group the friend was hosting in her home.

Oh, and I forgot two things. (Sorry, I love talking about my birds and my friends are probably all sick of hearing about them).

We recently figured out that Goofy has decided that "Okay" means "I don't want to play right now/anymore". As I've been trying to make friends with him, I'll approach his cage and offer my finger for scritches. He ether drops his head down and lets me, or he just stares at me and I walk away. Since I'm talking to him all the time, I generally say something like "Okay, you don't want scritches right now" as I walk away. Over the course of several incidences, we realized that he would say "Okay" right before he gave MrC the warning nip that means "I'm ready to go back in my cage now". Seems he associated that word in not quite the right way, but it works for us.

Also, he says "Stuart" a whole awful lot. Wanna guess what my problem child's name is?

Ok, this isn't a story about our birds.

My father used to work on phones way back in the day. He knocked on someone's door and and someone said "hello, come in". So he did. And following the sound of Hello's and come ins, he found that there was no one home but the owners parrot. ;) Kinda an uncomfortable moment for him.

Of course when discussing talking birds we must have a gratuitous Zeki video.

The cutest story I have about Raven and Griffin is below, copied from a thread I posted.

[Lately, while still under his bedtime cover in the morning, usually the first sound Griffin makes is repeatedly calling his friend by name. "Raven, Raven, Raaaven? Raven??" In a tone of voice as if to say 'are you there Raven, answer me!' He has the most adorable little kid sort of voice. Of course sleepy head Raven in the next cage over never answers lol.

The other day, I witnessed the cutest thing... it was in the evening when Raven and Griffin play together in and around their cages. Although Griffin calls Raven, this is the first time I heard it the other way around, Raven calling Griffin! It was so funny... I heard "Griffin... Griffin, Griffin!, Griffin!!" Then I happened to look, and as soon as Raven caught up with Griffin, he started feeding him! Raven was calling Griffin to come over so he could feed him ROTFL!]

Here's some talking from Raven from today. The word "vegetable" has two meanings to Raven... It means either 'food' OR 'get outta here unless you want no fingers left!'

Here's some more random talking from Raven tonight.

Good ones B, exactly what I was talking about.

Salty has now picked up the different barks of our Cairne Terrier, Tinker. The other night we ordered pizzas to be delivered to our house and in the meantime my son took the dog out to be walked. Wouldn't you know the pizza guy came and delivered the pizzas, only to be greeted with a barking mad parrot. As he handed the pizzas, over he wanted to know if the dog would bite. I had to tell him that it was not a dog, it was our parrot. Then he wanted to know if the parrot bites. Poor guy, I gave him an extra $5 tip.

This is going to be slightly embarrassing, but I'll share nonetheless. :54:

This particular event took place about 15 years ago or so.

I was on the 'potty', door closed, doing what you do on the potty. Next thing I heard "MOM!" Sounded exactly like my youngest son, so I hollered back: "Mark, I'm on the toilet, give me a minute."

Not 10 seconds later: "MOOOOM!" Me: "Mark, wait just a minute and let me finish!" "MOOOOM!" Now I'm irritated. I yank the door open and holler back "Mark, what do you want, can't you wait til I'm done?"

Front door opens, Mark walks in, sees me on the potty and says: "Mom, can't you close the door when you're on the toilet?"

"MOOOOM!" We look at each other (Mark and I), and both bust up laughing. It was Hunter, my YN Amazon. :32:

My aunts Quaker, Max, is the cutest thing. We'll make a joke and start laughing and he'll laugh with us!! Another cute thing is when my aunt calls out for him she'll say "Max!!" And all you hear in the other room is Max replying back to her, "Max!". It's the cutest thing hahaha :)

Pumpkin can say ALOT considering his species. My brother, fiance and I live together and we have a bad habbit about telling slightly offensive jokes but it is all in a good natured way we do not mean anything by it.

Anyway we were all watching The Walking Dead one night and paused the show to discuss (TWD requires a lot of discussion in my house). My fiance told a pretty offensive ethnic joke about one of the characters and from the other room Pumpkin started joining in on the laughter. We all stopped to listen to him laughing and when I asked him "Pumpkin are you racist?!" And we all heard him giggle and say "Good Boy"

Fly free Plum, my gorgeous boy.
Plum uses the same phrase to mean several different things - the phrase is "go bubbyes". Meanings - wanna go back to my cage, to be given food, do a poo, have a drink or really go to bed. Take your pick!
One morning I walked into the Kitchen a bit blurry eyed and obviously looked a bit miserable 'cause suddenly out of the blue came "what's up with you?" certainly put a smile on my face.

Millie asks "what does the ***** cat say? Meow, meow, meow." Also "what does the puppy dog say? Woof, woof, woof".

She has also been learning nursery rhymes but so far she only does the wee, wee, wee, home from little pigs went to market.
