Perjo - Female CAG hatch Nov 2015
I'm in NEO, which means the weather changes every 9 minutes, but I'm curious what is the ideal temp range to let my CAG sit outside for awhile. I was told by my breeder that 60 is the minimum temp, 65-70 more ideal, is there a temp ceiling to avoid?

How long is too long to leave a bird outside, in a cage in direct sunlight?

I took her outside on Easter for about 35 minutes in direct sunlight, she liked it considering she was stuck in her smaller sleep cage. Was really taking in the sounds of the birds in the neighborhood.

...and we need a better CAG emoticon!

Maybe 55 to low 80s F since we're talking northern sun. You can acclimate a parrot to some pretty cold temps. I take Jimmy out until about 50 degrees, but I think she'd be fine in lower. I don't pay attention to temp, but rather the bird. Agitation and especially panting, too hot. They will puff up their legs to cover their feet when it starts to get cold. Ideally, if they have access to sun and shade, they can make the decision themself if they've had enough sun.

A plucked bird, I have no idea if they would get sunburned? Always been curious.

Jimmy gets outside about 2 hours a day when the weather is okay. She'd stay out all day if she had her way.

Bella - Congo African Grey
Not sure exactly what breed CAG stands for, I'm guessing Congo African Grey. I put my African Grey out during the day when it gets above 60 degrees in the spring as long as it isn't to windy and wet. (She has cover, but 60 degrees in the sun feels much warmer then 60 degrees in the wind and rain.) As she becomes more accustomed to the weather I leave her out as long as the weather stays above 40 degrees at night and warms up into the 60's during the day.

Not sure on what is to hot in the sun. The important part is to make sure she can get out of the wind and under cover from the sun. Maybe hang a towel over half of the cage and the parrot can decide sun or no sun. I don't know if I would put a parrot in a cage in direct sun without any cover for very long.

I live in VT and generally will take my guys for walks when its in the 50's with hoodies on with my 3 birds. That helps extend the time frame I have to take them out. If they are too warm they will pant so watch their body language. My CAG won't wear a hoodie so if its in the 50's I make sure its not windy and is sunny out. Most of all, have fun! Your did will enjoy being out!
