So I was browsing around on amazon and came across this.

Not only is it an unsafe method to "restrain" your bird, it's only a foot long! Why the hell would anyone buy this? I feel horrible for the bird in the picture. I reported the item to amazon but who knows what will happen.

Thankfully no one has purchased this item, but I'm definitely disgusted.

It apparently is very common in Asia to use these. I couldn't find any stainless perch/swings in the US and had to order one from China. Literally EVERY swing and stand (multiple vendors and styles) had one of those leg shackles. I use the one on Kiwi's swing to put toys on. I couldn't imagine ever putting it around his ankle though!

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
That's from the DARK AGES of bird keeping. And even in the dark ages, the tethers were longer than that...

You want a bird to stay put on a perch?

Make it interesting for him. Give him something to do.

They are making a comeback in the states. NO I am not saying its a good thing. I am just saying there are more places that sell them and more video's showing up teaching you how to use them.

BAD IDEAS COMING AROUND AGAIN...

And yes, they can result in leg, and other injuries, if the bird gets spooked and flies off with that thing around his leg. It can also stress them having to wear it.

THERE'S A REASON THEY SWITCHED TO CHEST HARNESSES FOR PARROTS, THEY'RE MUCH, MUCH SAFER!!! This is just easier for the owner, UNTIL THE VET GIVES THEM THE BAD NEWS ABOUT THEIR BIRD'S INJURIES.

Incrediblle. I saw many birds in HK with these, and they were not happy campers, believe me. No toys, and shackeld to a perch. I felt so bad for them.

What I have been seeing are the ones used for flying. There was a video not long ago posted here. I just do not want to give the guy more advertisement or I would link it lol

Trapped, bored, scared, and vulnerable... all the qualities you want in a psychologically well balanced companion bird...

:11: They need to learn their place... :11:

Yes, Sheldon, you were right. That was sarcasm...

:32: I watch too much Big Bang Theory don't I?!
