Hundreds Of B.C. Parrots Need Forever Homes As Sanctuary Closes
This is a parrot rescue place a couple of hours away from me. The lady who ran the place (sadly, recently deceased) took it upon herself to collect abused and unwanted parrots. At one point the facility was up to over 800 birds. Unfortunately, she steadfastly refused to adopt out any of them, and in my opinion, the numbers got beyond her ability to care for them properly.
While the article places a nice "spin" on the situation, the SPCA has investigated, and found that huge numbers of the birds are sick and/or dying (chlamydia being the primary infection), and many will have to be destroyed.
We've been following the situation, and it's heartbreaking. It's my fervent hope that at least some can be saved, and adopted to new, forever homes.

Chlamydia is one of the diseases an AV tests for at an initial exam, so it sounds to me as though this woman must not have been having proper testing done and/or had poor quarantine practices if it is running rampant through the sanctuary. Tragic the birds are the ones who will suffer from that. I hope the birds who are healthy enough to be saved can be treated and adopted into loving forever homes.
