So where is the best place to go to find your next bird? I work online so i only know of how to find things online and that's never very good..

Where/How have you all found your birds?

We found a couple avian rescues online and got in contact with them. Narrowed it down to the one who was willing to work with us (the other 2 only adopted to 21+, we were both only 19) and did all their requirements and waited for the right bird to come up. Took about 6 months to find Kiwi. It was worth the wait, he's a great bird!

My first bird when I was 6 was named Kiwi :D Fantastic name!

Both of mine I've found online as rescues (for the most part), but now that we have a place for a new bird, I'm trying to figure out what's the best place to look

I'm just looking for a new addition to our family!

We were supposed to get one this last week, but it ended up not working out, but we've already prepared for an extra beak, so I figured I would look around :)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Rescues are a wonderful place to liberate a bird stuck in the "holding pattern" of life.

Other than live births in my home, many were purchased from private parties and specialty "bird stores." Have always avoided the "big box" pet shops.

Please let us know what you wind up with!!

Finally found a decent rescue place in town. There's a bronze winged pionus named ernie that is a picker and 16 years old and my heart breaks for him :(

Wasatch Avian Education Society Β» Adoptable Birds

the other two I'm asking about are Tealk and Jenny

I just looked at their adoptable birds and Ernie called out to me too! Poor baby, he just looks so very sad:( I bet he's been through a lot. Maybe you can be the human to finally give him a happy, loving forever home!

"Pooper" sure looks like a curmudgeon of an amazon giving the classic "zon scowl" for his photo lol:).

Well my jenday Gus being a curmudgeon was why we picked him! I love sassy little turds :)

but yeah! poor thing! ive not gotten a bird through a rescue before so i dont know if i would have to foster one first?

i would love either an african or indian ringneck though. always loved those ^_^

Depends on the rescue what they require. Most seem to have you fill out a bunch of paperwork to determine your eligibility, require some classes in bird care (even if you're a current bird owner), home check and a contract you will return the bird to them rather than rehome if the situation ever arises. Some also make you take the bird on a trial period before formally adopting (kind of like fostering, only fostering with the intention to adopt).

You should contact them and explain your situation and that you are interested in Enrie and the IRNs. See what they'd require you to do to come meet the birds and see if any of them 'click' for you:)

yeah I emailed them, but since it is Sunday, I didn't think I would get a response but I did! both ringnecks wouldn't probably work out in my home sadly :( and it looks like they check the home and do fostering before adoption... He answered me about the ringnecks and now I have asked about Ernie.

Uhg! I hate waiting! if I could I would take them all and live in a huge house of bird lol
