So my dream of being that weirdo with a bird on my shoulder at a party came true. I took my Black capped conure to a 8 years olds BIRD themed party. Sprinkles was good sat on some kids hands eat seeds from them. Sprinkles loved the party. He sat on my shoulder watching the little kids run around and scream. He even tried to take a bath in my water cup.

It was a fun and one that got me thinking. Does anyone being their birds around as therapy parrot to child hospitals or old folks homes? I know these are parrots and often only want to be with their flock and might not like strangers. BUT I know there must be some parrots that like to meet people.

Oh that is so cute and sounds like so much fun! What a good boy Sprinkles was. If I tried that with Beau, there'd be a lot of bloody fingers.

I don't take Jimmy anywhere for therapy, however living in campgrounds often brings us into contact with old folks and kids (we walk/jog daily with her on harness). Only the very grouchiest old jerks can resist her charm! She makes everyone happy.

PRECIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so touched and moved. Wow.

I think my darling Rbird would be more in his element as an assistant torturer. Waterboarding has nothing on his abuses.

I am not going to lie one little girl I told her that Sprinkles can and will nip. She got a little nip but not blood. That was it. He was great with the rest of the kids that listen to me.

One older lady who did not speak english well was annoying I had to tell her to no stick her fingers near the bird when on my shoulder. She was just as bad as the kids haha.

He would not sit still for a photo.

I have noticed that people are completely taken aback when you say that the little birds Will nip you but very seldomly will someone ask to hold a macaw or a Amazon.

My dear Mother is living at a memory care facility and our DYH Amazon has made two visits this year and has been invited back. He is a big hit and my Mother gets lots of attention from everyone - Since it is Her 'Grand Parrot' who is visiting them! It is very enjoyable watching the affect our Amazon has on them. One lady that was having problems adjusting to life at the facility, but she had an Amazon in her past and seeing our Amazon really opened her up. According to the staff, she spoke more during our Amazon's visit than she had in the prior three days. Yes, I set our Amazon on their arms, if they ask (very important).

Our Amazon also travels with us to my Wife's family gatherings, which is another couple of trips each year.

It is very important to socialize your Parrot if you plan on visiting parties or as Therapy Parrot. Remember that you are responsible and must have a solid comfort level with the likely reactions of your Parrot. Bit Pressure Training is also needed to assure if a nip or out right bite happens that no one gets hurt.

NOTE: It is important to practice and have a presentation prepared so that you don't get stuck with little or nothing to say!
