Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I could just Google it but it's more fun to ask here!

So... a new study is making the national news rounds: dogs' mouths are NOT remotely "cleaner than humans'", as popular myth would have us believe.

What about parrots' mou--- uh... beaks?

Nasty? Nice?

Well, there's the obvious hazard of smooching a capsaicin-laden beak...

But really, am I taking my life in my hands?

I'll take my chances. I wouldn't ever give up my kisses from my birdies. My Amazon gives me several kisses a day.

One of the major differences between a Parrot's 'mouth' and that of a Human and a Dog is the Parrot's is commonly dry!

Parrots are at more danger than the Human! Lots of stuff grows in moist, dark places!

Hahahaha! Abigail and Natasha, I love both those videos! Sweet!

Yeah, parrot kisses should be safe and sanitary enough for us (you know, unless your bird is a habitual poop chewer, of course). As Steven mentioned, for the most part it's the bird who is even remotely at risk. But so long as none of the kisses are of the open-mouthed variety, all should be fine. Hahaha!

Not dead yet from kissing my handsome little guy on the beakie:10::D Though I do cringe a little when he decided to give "french kisses" and lick my lip with his weird little worm like tongue:34: I cringe even more when he comes at me with a potty beak or those days he has bird breath:23: I call star anise pods "birdie tic tacs" as they freshen the aroma of the beak;) and tell him to eat his tic tac before he gets his kisses when he's got bird breath real bad. He typically glares as I think he knows he is being rejected and insulted lol. It's hard to discourage affectionate behavior, so I just try to encourage the beak kisses instead of the french kisses.

Salty gives kisses when ever I ask him to, and sometimes on his own. He just started doing it one day, maybe he expects food to come out of it? I always try to keep my lips tightly sealed but sometimes he kisses me just because, and catches me by surprise. In those instances he does get past the lips, but I hope that that tiny tiny bit of saliva wont matter. Hey I use Listerine every morning!

Jiannotto... I honestly have no idea how I taught him (or how he learned) to give kisses... we've been doing it for 30 years. I *THINK* it was his idea... he has always been interested in my lips... likes to hold them gently and regurgitate. I know: ya gotta be a bird-lover to dig that!

Happy... I hear ya. Those kisses are priceless!

Sailboat... ah, sure, good point. Beaks are dry!

Flboy... as strange as they come, and if you're diggin' it, so are you. Aren't we wonderful?

Itchy... you so totally have a deal. What a way to go... that's a gorgeous, gorgeous bird you have there.

Anansi... thanks. No open-mouthed kisses here. That would be wrong on so many levels, right?

Kiwi... yeah, Rbird's breath is rarely odiferous, but is almost always laced with Serrano Pepper juice, which is absolutely incendiary!!!!! But like you say, it's affection. What am I gonna do? Yeah, the tongues ARE weird...

Mr. GoodWrench... true, they can sneak up on ya. Actually, you helped me recall a fuller answer to Jiannotto's question: I think the Rbird just started doing it on his own. If I had succeeded in actually TEACHING him something, I'd remember it!!!!!!

Thanks, everybody.

Kiwi's breath is typically fruity or kind of pleasant musty smelling like the rest of him (that zon smell). But whenever he gets a big piece of broccoli (and boy does he love broccoli), it seems to create some pretty rough bird breath the next morning:02: Kisses? Uuuuuuhhhh, no thanks, you need a 'breath mint' first mister :green:! A star anise pod though and he smells nice again, like licorice! Those things really are birdie mints, they smell like a spiced dessert the rest of the day.

No idea what could be given to the RB to neutralize the pepper juice! I think that would be far worth than rank breath:54:

Yep I love my birdie sugar as well. Having Booger (SC) and Cookie (BFA)on my shoulder at one time can be a challenge however. The seem to compete to see who gets/gives more kisses to daddy.... gosh they can wear my lips out!
