Birds in cold weather [emoji35]

I live in Hawaii; the weather here is lovely. You know what is NOT lovely? People who move here for a few years (often due to the military, like my family), but a parrot and then ABANDON IT when they leave! Very often claiming the following;

-"We can't afford to take it" IT'S A CARRY-ON!
-"We are moving to a place that doesn't allow pets" ALL MILITARY FAMILY HOUSING ALLOWS PETS
-"the military won't let us" LIES. THE MILITARY DOESNT CARE.

(And my current favorite)

-"we can't take him because we are moving somewhere cold" I HAD PARROTS WHERE IT GETS TO -40 DEGREES F! GOOD GRIEF!!

Makes my blood boil, in case that wasn't clear. I wish I could bring this lovely bird home and give the owners a piece of my mind. Unfortunately I actually think through each animal before I bring them home, and I know that the last thing I need in my life right now is a jenday.

Yes BS indeed! Perhaps the Military should ban pets for their sake?

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who just do not care about other living things. There are some who dont even care about themselves, so how can you expect them to care for something else? Its sad for sure but its one of those things that you cant let bother you too much, because if you were worried about every bird, dog, cat, etc animals, even BABY that was being neglected or mistreated, you wouldnt ever want to live. I look at like this.. at least they are confronting their neglect and putting the bird out for adoption rather than keeping it in a dark corner to be left alone. Humans are the only living things on this planet that conciously take other living things into their lives, unfortunately not all who do truly realize or care about the responsibility and do not see the bird or whatever animal as another life but just a decoration and its disgusting but its reality.

Absolutely not. I really hope that was said tongue in cheek, as the USA has 1,429,000 active duty service members, to say nothing of their families, and for some of us our pets are the only consistency we have. The problem isn't the military, some of us spend thousands to move our pets with us; the problem is people lacking commitment. People who want to ditch their pets will do so, the military is just one excuse that some people use. My point was not that service members ditch pets, it's that the military isn't a valid reason for ditching them.
