My birds don't get along, I have to rehome one of them...

Just kidding, that's not going to happen! I currently have 1 Pionus, 5 Irns, 3 GCCs, and a cockatiel running amuck in my living room, and of the 10 birds currently loose, only 2 of them get along. Yet I just saw another add claiming "they don't get along" as a reason for selling a bird. It annoyed me to the point that I'm going to write an article (hopefully tonight!) about solutions to the problem of having two birds who don't get along.

If I though that was a good reason, Griffin would have been gone long ago lol! He singlehandedly makes the workload of 5 birds (counting 2 budgies) seem like 10. He not only doesn't get along with Robin and the budgies, but he actively seeks them out to see if he can get into an altercation (which I don't let happen). He lost with Robin a couple times and permanently has less toenails now because of it. Doesn't stop him from trying again though. It will never happen again because now I go through PAINSTAKING steps to minimize hazard for all. It means less time out for everyone, and a giant headache and extra work for me, but I do what I have to do to be a responsible parront, regardless of how much of a pain it is. Griffin is dearly loved and is bonded to Raven.

Now IF he truly was unhappy here and nothing I did was able to make him a happy bird, then that's a different story. There are certain times when rehoming is for the best. I had an Amazon in that situation (needed more birds and people around and I worked full time, was single, and my home was too quiet) I tried 'everything' for almost a year to no good result. I hear about her now and then to this day, and she is super happy and thriving at her busy and boisterous home she's lived at for about 10 years now.

I have made the same choice to rehome birds who are truly happier in other situations; it just blows my mind how quickly some people give up.

I hear ya, Julie!! We move mountains for our fids because we deeply respect and return their unconditional love. I have similar problems with some of my Goffins. At times they quiver with rage when throwing visual daggers! So it means juggling "out" time as the best compromise. I swear they keep track to the second!

They play with the beads. I was careful to get one with nontoxic paint though. I thought they would have more fun with the sides but they mostly ignore those so I'm going to hang Seagrass mats on them.
