I am having a horrible time. I have absolutely no filter unless I'm typing or talking to someone I'm not familiar with / authority. I don't want Lincoln to start repeating swear words to my parents D':

Does Lincoln speak? Not all birds do. But if he's a talker, then ya, you might have to be a bit more careful unless you want a colorful bird with equally colorful language
I did not grow up in a very "censored" home. Not a single one of my parents birds have uttered a single word in their whole lives. Kiwi was adopted saying just a few words, including "f-u" (which he uses, in context, when angry enough) but has picked up no new words or colorful language over the nearly 8 years we've had him and we aren't very censored either. That said, we may swear a fair bit, but we hardly ever raise our voices or yell or get overly emotional. It is usually the animation, excitement or emotion that often comes with cussing that makes a parrot pick them up. It's not the words themselves, it's that the humans are typically pretty animated when saying them, which intrigues the avian mind.

I did not grow up in a 'censored' home either, but as a matter of respect for myself and others, I do not use a Potty mouth! I am by no means a prude! Even helped out backstage in a burlesque show many years ago! (Hey, they needed a volunteer, I stepped up.)
As a computer nerd, this type of colorful conversation just doesn't happen! And as an emerald personality, I guess I am wired this way!

If you care about him having a potty mouth, censor yourself, if not who cares. I grew up in a loud NYC family with a colorful vocabularly in more than one language, and words really dont bother me (maybe im desensitized), so personally I wouldnt be upset if my bird learned a few "funny" words, though I have respect for other people and dont speak as I would around a good friend somewhere where offense may be taken to like here where everyone has different values.
I've watched a few videos of swearing parrots and they crack me up. But then I realize I wouldn't like a bird that swore ALL the time. (There is a African Gray in the UK that only swears...)
But that cockatoo Eric? That bird cracks me up with his "F*&^ing Legend" screams. But it's clearly not his only trick, just the one he's proud of.

Lets just say, more than a few years ago, I was contacted by an Amazon owner who's Amazon had picked-up a very specific set of sounds in the precise voice of his girlfriend.
Long Story Short: It seems that the Amazon was moved room to room with this young couple and being a young couple with odd schedules that placed them together in the afternoons for their 'special' together time. After near a year, her parents visited one Sunday afternoon for a light meal and deeper meeting each other since the relationship had developed nicely over the last year and marriage was being discussed.
So as the meal began, the Amazon was placed in the Bedroom and the Human gathering was occurring in the Kitchen. Well, being mid-afternoon and in the Bedroom, the Amazon started into a near perfect 'sound for sound' of the normal 'special' together time of this young couple, well at least the daughters.
The Mother, quite red faced, left the apartment and the Father stood to follow his wife, but just prior to leaving, stopped and stated: Well, regarding the marriage, clearly the sooner the better. And, I would consider not placing the Parrot in the Bedroom when you have company!
I concurred fully with the Father's advice!
So, take care of what you say and do in the presents of your Parrot! You just never know what will come forth! Same story with Toddlers and Children in general!!!

Well if you live with your parents and they wouldnt be happy about this, then I would be careful. Like said above, parrots can pick up on the one thing you never expect or want them to!

I completely agree with April! Birds read emotions very well, and a repeated epithet during a meltdown or animated discussion will be of great interest!

Some are mortifying.
We watch it around the Rickeybird, or try, but nevertheless he says a couple of naughty words, which causes anxiety in public. At a Humane Society Christmas event, the Rickeybird called Santa a "MAGGOT". He could have said worse.

Aaaah, public anxiety! A reoccurring event each Spring as the "Bless of the (Pets) Animals" draws closer and the fellow members remind one every week proceeding as they ask if we are bring 'our' Parrot this year and more importantly, which Mass we will be attending. There is nothing more fulfilling, then to know that your Amazon is the reason for the overflowing Mass (early morning Mass, over-flowing is a clear indication) as they gather to hear what that Parrot will say to or call the Priest this year! And, there is nothing like crowd level laughter to encourage an Amazon onto ever louder notes!

We've been to a few blessings (Episcopalian, my ol' man's faith).
The most eventful one involved me restraining the Rbird as well as I could while the priest nervously touched his tail feathers, and pronounced in his basso profundo: "Some animals are less in need of a blessing and more in need of an EX-ORR-CISMMMM!"
For a moment, there was dead silence. Then he began to laugh, and so did everybody else.

I guess that's better than a similar word that starts with F hahaha.
My favourite potty mouth parrot is Santos. He ranges from kiddie insults (you're a pooper!) to the F word. And is hilarious when he yells out "HEY WICKWIRE!" (his owners last name).
But for Owlet - as long as its generic swearing and not something specific only you say, you could always pass it off as something from TV/Youtube?

I have written about this a few times, but it's relevant here. We are
Not Goofy's first humans. He actually belonged to MrC's BIL from babyhood until 1998, when he was given to MrC (he hit adolescence and became loud and unmanageable. BIL tried, but never re-established a good relationship and couldn't stop the screaming. Then he had to downsize into an apartment and poor Goofy just wasn't going to be a good neighbor). Anyway, BIL is a confirmed bachelor who apparently likes a certain type of adult movies. Whenever Goofy is left "alone" (in scare quotes because to him that means nobody in the same room) too long he starts in on his porn star routine. It's rather embarrassing.
Also, we learned today that Charlotte knows "what the f***". This is not a phrase we use, so it had to come from wherever she was before the people we got her from got her, since they don't seem the type to use it either.
