I should really initially introduce myself. Please forgive me for not doing so sooner as I don't even have a Facebook and am very illiterate in social media or how forums work. I'm learning! My name is Brittany. My fiancé Brandon knew I loved birds before I realized I did. Naming our family of kildees and the hummingbirds that ate out of our feeders to the mocking birds who created a nest in my hanging basket(yes I got dive bombed by Bonnie while trying to water). Brandon (fiancé) loves fish. He has 5 aquariums. So we used to go to every and any pet store. A lot. I instantly always wanted to see the birds. Now I have never had anything besides cats, fish, and outside dogs in my life. Apparently in his eyes I was very happy around the birds. So he brought up maybe me getting one. That "one" that made me smile all the way home. I did some research and realized real quick birds aren't like a cat or a dog ha. But after the go ahead from him I felt ready. I don't care how much research you do your first bird there are learning curves! Caesars hatch date was 3/16/15. I got him from Petco. I was never advised about bird rescues or an adult bird needing a home. I just didn't know about this lifestyle. Yes I'm sure to most it was an impulse buy but before I got him I ordered a rolls Royce cage with lots of room and stocked up on veggies. And I'll tell you in complete honesty he has changed my life. Nothing can compare to a bird or now I should say my birds. Caesar is a dusky headed conure who now has a goffin cockatoo Ziggy and a red rump parakeet Ozzy. I can't imagine my life without them nor do I want to. It's like having 3 more kids with the amount I spend on toys ha. My life changed the day I got Caesar. I am now considered the crazy bird lady at work but I will own that title because my life feels complete with them. This all started because I went to a petco for fish. A month later I had a new life. I'm a reader on here not much a poster and I wish I could have rescued now. But I was uniformed and ignorant about the bird world. But it's my world now and I love it. Wouldn't have it any other way now and I couldn't see myself without my babies. Sorry for the long post! I just felt I should properly introduce myself.

Welcome and be welcomed Brittany. No one on THIS forum will every guilt someone for not adopting or rescuing. Indeed , its not for everyone. More so for inocent new parronts. We are glad you found us, this board is a wealth of good information and advice, so if you have questions, concerns or problems about your babies, ask away, or search the forums. Oh, and we love pics and videos here.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums, Brittany! Your enthusiasm and love for parrots has landed you with like-minded people. We totally understand they are a lifestyle, permanent children.

Would love to learn more about Caesar, Ziggy, and Ozzy. Goffins are my absolute favorite species!!

Welcome, its funny how life goes sometimes putting things right in front of us before we even realize them. A new bird absolutely is a learning curve no matter what you do or read, its like anything else really, you can read how a million times but until you do it, you dont really know. There is always more to learn. I really like duskys though Ive never met one, and post some pics!
