Oh rats , you beat me to it. But we keep curtains on all the windows, not for that reason, just a privacy thing.

Yeah, you don't want all the other birds to see how great Salty is, because they'll try to recruit him into their gangs. Can you imagine how much seed they could steal with Salty to distract the humans with his amazing feats?

We've got shutters on almost all of our windows. The remaining Windows have either curtains or nothing (the windows for the basement have nothing). Mostly shutters though.

MrC allowed his daughters to strategically place stickers on the large windows in our house when they were little. They're 32 years old now. The stickers are still there. Some of them are pretty nearly washed out, but they've done their jobs. No birds have accidentally flown into the windows.

Now, the glass top of the pool fence, on the other hand, is a different story. Despite the stickers there, a few hawks have met a tragic end. We keep trying to figure out something that will actually work and keep coming up short.

We have blinds and curtains, nothing like a little overkill.

With wild birds, it is a great rarity that we have any problems. We live in Red Tail Hawk Centre! With at least four families actively working this area all year around. During the Summer when the young are getting their flight lessons, they use your home to teach high speed inside turns. So, flocks are rare and those nesting birds have located deep in the brushes.

Great ideas, really like the nets! Great idea for West facing windows and cutting Summer heat build-up.

FYI: Early evening can be a very common problem with a setting Sun. we use an old far Northern European tradition of turning a lamp on with sits center of the window. It off-set the reflection of the Sun and defines the Window.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Virtually all of my windows have blinds/shades that are partially deployed, so birds have a sense of barrier.

Sadly, human structures cause horrendous casualties. Large glassy buildings, windmills, smokestacks, sewage plants, etc. Even older fences in remote areas had hollow poles that allow hapless birds to enter and get stuck. Aviation is a personal sore spot; I've had many bird-strikes over the years. The dull thud of contact near the cockpit, typically at low altitudes, is dreadful. There is an old lore that turning on the aircraft weather radar near heavily "birded" areas chases them away, but that is probably BS.
If you and a flock of birds are having a very bad day, this is what can happen......

We're on the ground floor, so we have bars on all our windows! (Which recently proved not to be a match for a strategically-applied car jack... ah, city life. :D )

Anyway, just a note to remember that curtains and stickers inside a window will prevent the window from appearing transparent, but won't prevent the window from creating a reflective illusion that can cause a bird to fly into it (like SailBoat mentions above).
