Aggravating Perch Frustration

I've been trying to stay on top of rotating toys and perches in both birds cages but the perch makers do not make this an easy task!!

If somehow you manage to get the wing-nuts mixed up, you're literally screwed!! Every perch from every maker uses a different size bolt and wing-nut and then to screw out up even worse they mix them up further by using some measured in metric and some standard!!

Last weekend the dog ran through my work area scattering all the wing-nuts and washers. After an hour trying to match a few that were oddballs I gave up and went to the hardware. Naturally they were both metric and had different threading dimensions.

It would make life extremely less frustrating if all the perch makers could agree on standardizing hardware. First choose standard or metric and then all use a standard bolt, standard threading dimension and wing-nut.

This weekend I'm cutting all the bolt ends off all the perches and standardizing my own. If I have to go through that BS again I'd probably throw out all the perches.

Thank you for letting me rant. If you know who I can complain to where it might make s diff, let me know!
Thx,
Peg

38 years in the fastener business - I know your frustration. Cars are now 1/2 inch and 1/2 metric, and both use coarse and fine thread series, depending on the load the bolt will take. Call up any fastener company near your city, and for a thread board - it will have pre-taped holes, for inch and metric . It will save you frustration any time you need to do something mechanical.
