Bumble - Pacific (or Celestial) Parrotlet hatched 02/19/17
Bumble is molting and I've noticed several pin feathers poking out around her head. I know that it's my job to help with those, but I've been nervous about hurting her. I talked with my BFF (long time bird person) and she told me what to look for and how to do it.

So last night, Bumble was being a super lovebug, preening herself on my finger, doing the one-footed fluffed up thing, and I decided it was a good time to give it a try. I found the biggest one and the sheath rubbed right off and then

The most sweet and lovely moment

Bumble quacked for my attention and then put her head down, showing me her tiny little neck as if to say "keep going" and I realized that I have really, truly gained her trust. I can't even tell you how amazing that moment was. But I don't have to because you all know already - so I want to hear your stories of the moment you realized that the bird trusted YOU. What a sweet story!

With Max, there was trust from moment we met, he picked me, I didn't want a macaw. But the time when I knew he trusted me completely was when he stayed on his back like a baby... prior to that he was very panicky with being rolled.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
my big moment was a couple days after I got my Green cheek who's sadly no longer with us. He was very docile from the moment I got him, would step up (slightly reluctantly) from day 1. The moment I had was when I was just watching TV working off a hangover on a saturday morning while he was surveying the place from atop his cage. I was half dozing off and I heard a flutter then a small weight on my finger which was by my face. I opened my eyes to see his face pushed up against my glasses as if to say "you okay?" I put him back on his cage as I needed the toilet and as I rounded the corner he fluttered over and landed right on my shoulder. That entire day then opened up to lots of playing and lots of recall training and was the start of a very happy month I had with my little guy. Even when he was in his final hours he wanted to snuggle with me more than anything
