I'm finally made a tiny success after a long time of being mired in the unknowns, can I just vent a bit? You won't think less of me? I'm wondering how steep a curve is still ahead for the WikiBeaks project. Registering as a 501(c)(3) organization was complicated enough...then getting signed up with TechSoup took a while, but they helped with donated software and advice, including QuickBooks (which I still need to learn)...a local bank donated a free business bank account for us ... Google put me through some changes but in the end gave us free G Suite apps for mail, collaboration tools and the like...but building the website is murder!

I played with Wix while researching options...WordPress sure seemed more powerful...three days learning WP and putting together a prototype site, and I became convinced that it was a better platform, and also that I wasn't getting anything else done, and had no idea of how much there still was to learn...so I bailed and went crawling back to Wix. At least I can get a site up fairly quickly. (the working prototype is here, if anyone wants to see... https://kentuckienne.wixsite.com/wikibeaks) Be gentle with me, I'm working on it. You may think you could write something much better - please do!

And I still don't have by-laws, or a board of dictators. I'm beginning to think I'm insane. Then again, maybe I'm farther along than I see. Maybe the worst is over, and more of the infrastructure is in place than I think. Maybe I've found most of the pieces and just need to keep fitting them together. HAHAHAH, I am sure there are more opportunities for learning ahead than I can imagine. Maybe it helps to be nuts. Sometimes it seems like I have spent so much time on this, and got so little to show for it...either I'm not very competent or this is difficult. My money's on Difficult.

Anyway, it's been a slow slog through an tortuous terrain toward a hazy horizon, so I haven't been able to keep up with all the new parronts. I check in on the antics of the RickeyBird and Nigel and Salty but don't have time to contribute any entertaining comments. And now I must toddle off the bed so I can stare at the ceiling wondering if I'm nuts, which is infinitely more comfortable than sitting in a chair wondering if I'm nuts. Thanks for reading to the end of all this whining, and wish me luck!

I have to say that you've done a beautiful job thus far. It sounds like a ton of work and I think you are further along than it probably feels :60:

This is great!!!!

Wix is def more user friendly than WP I have a site with each and Wix is easier for my brain to use. I've had my WP site for years, before wix was an option.

Keep going wikibeaks!!!!!

I didn't think of that! I can be my own super Mod, except I never listen to me so it would be a futile effort.

WikiBeaks won't be anything like Parrotforums...its purpose it to intercept those considering parrot ownership and send them elsewhere, to one of the bigger sites with good content and an organization in place. Right now the only link on the site goes to Parrotforums because what better place for people to get good honest answers?! I love this place.

First: YES! You are NUTS! After all your life is also controlled by a Parrot! So, stop worrying about whether or not - you just are! And, that is a good thing! :D

One of my longtime mentors stated that: "If it was not difficult, everyone would be doing it! And, what fun would that be!" Yes, he was nuts also! From him, I learned that being nuts has its advantages!

QuickBooks: The software is a bit thick-headed, after all is was developed by Accountants for Accountants to keep their secrets from everyone else just how simple Accounting is. Any group that has to change the meaning of words (example: Debit /Credit) to confuse the masses, implies the foundation is fairly simple! Anyway, Look at all the different types of Income you could have. It all starts with a Group called Income and then sub-groups from there, i.e. Donations, Gifts, etc... The goal is to track where the money is coming from year to year. In Accounting speak, that would be a Debit. Now for the other side of the process is Expenditures. Here like Income there will be groups under this title. Understand, you will have far more Groups on this side and will want to build that flexibility in early on. The most common is know as 'Overhead.' This comprises the everyday draw on your funds, like Electrical, Water, Property Tax, Other Taxes, Rent, etc... The balance of the groups will target what you will be doing. This is what and why you have done all of this work! Here, the term is Expenditures. More specific than Overhead as this group defines where the 'why' you are doing this, where the monies go to support!

It is easier to down size groups than it is to increase them, once everything is running. The nice thing about QuickBooks is that it allows you to add to existing groups and create new ones. The best way to look at this is to ask, do I want to track this as a specific item!

And I still don't have by-laws, or a board of dictators: This needs to be on your list of things to do 'before' the end of your year! So, target 90 days prior to your End of Year.

NOTE: When setting up Groups and Line items, include things like Electrical, Water, etc... even if you are not currently using those items! This allows flexibility for the future!

You're doing great, bud. I've been bed ridden for a few months, I wish I could help you. But you're doing great. It'll all come together, I believe in it.

I have quite a few health issues that keep me out of commission. Juliet was partly a companion meant to keep me company because of this, actually. Thank you!! I'll do my best.
