1 green cheek conure
Hi I have a question about my parrots plumage. my parrot has some black tips on some of his feathers. I recently (maybe 4 months ago) switched him to a diet of chop in the morning and pellets in the evening (he used to get only pellets). I just want to make sure that the black on his feathers look like normal wear and tear and not nutritional, since I switched up his diet. Please let me know what you think, thank you in advance!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Same here, identical lack of conure knowledge, though!

Hopefully our conure experts will chime in!

NORMAL
My conure is pretty bright and iridescent but I don't walk into a pet store without checking out the birds and I've seen the same coloring on the darker GCCs all the time. The stems of the feathers will match the feathers to some degree but be a little bit darker.

Totally normal.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
very normal looking feathers. Just a little tatty and possibly a couple stress bars. How old are they?

Very normal for younger parrots/newer ones to have those until they moult, so nothing to worry about

he a cutie!

As the edge of a feather become ratty they lose their iridescent, ability to reflect light, and this is seen as a blackened areas on a feather that once had none! This should not be confused with Stress Bands, which are commonly seen further up the shaft from the the outer edge.

Very normal for young active Parrots.
