Inty Update

So I thought I'd give an update in regards to possibly adopting Inty the Meyer's. Unfortunately it's not exactly what any of us were hoping.

On Saturday morning I woke up and immediately got on the phone to the rescue to try talking to them about him, so as to get more insight into him. The phone rang a couple times than an answer phone message began. I thought maybe it's early and they're feeding any parrots they have there, so I left it for an hour so I could truly wake up.

I tried calling again and was met with the same message, then again and again.. I think I called something like 6 maybe 7 times that morning before admitting defeat. I find it so strange that a rescue who is full is so adamant about not speaking to people who are trying to adopt. the dealing I had with some of the volunteers in person at the parrot show in June was amazing, they had so many nice things to say but now it's just a brick wall. The last update to the website was the start of May!

I'm going to attempt sending an email to them and hope that can get me somewhere but I'm really losing out on enthusiasm in this rescue

That is odd. I'd leave one or two messages and an email. If no response, that is some sort of a message, perhaps a more visible and accommodating rescue would be better.

Yeah it seems very strange. I couldn't quite make out the answer-phone message but it seemed more aimed at people wanting to relinquish their parrots than people rescuing.

I've found at least one other rescue over here that looks promising they just don't have any I think would be compatible with me. I also know there's the less preferable option of going up to what appears to be the largest UK breeders. Luckily they do hand tame lots of their birds so like I say it's always there. Just gotta do some saving as I forgot I have to get my car serviced in a couple weeks!

Also of course I could just "bite the bullet" and put an application in for Inty but I will wait until October at the earliest for that due to money (I like to always have a month's rent aside as a safety net)

This could explain why they are not taking any more birds at the present, stuffed full already. What a shame for the ones there that need good homes and the ones waiting to be given up. Hopeless.

Exactly my thought. Just shows that people getting parrots with no thought not only hurts that parrot but the others in rescues as well. Hopefully my email gets met better. I know they said that they're really happy when people ask about smaller parrots as everyone who calls wants the macaws

I have seen them but a bit confused as there's no page of currently adoptable pets. Definitely one I'll look into though

I had trouble going through a rescue service. It was like you said, they said they were full up, but they never updated the site and never listed any birds. I've also heard of places just taking in unwanted birds as a "rescue/shelter", who just turn around and sell the birds.

Is there an equivalent thing there to Craigslist, where individuals list birds for sale? We have such a site here, and that's where to find birds that need rehoming. Even there though, I had an issue with resellers getting the birds, jacking the prices and relisting. I guess it doesn't matter about how you get a bird, or how much you end up paying, as long as it is healthy.

I finally decided to just go direct to a breeder. I get to ask questions and specify what I'm looking for. She raises the babies in her home environment, and she doesn't have a big turnover of babies at all. I hope you find a solution that works. It will happen when the time is right. Good luck.

Well if you're going for a "let the bird choose you" plan, you can't possibly know if one is compatible unless you go meet some [emoji3]

loads of that. Almost the only way to get a bird here. But there's way too many scammers and because I'm adamant not to pay anything until I decide sellers back away. I'd prefer to go to this store not too far from me and get a baby bird. IT would have to be a special bird to make me go private

I really don't think I'd be able to take on the responsibility of safe-housing, the space alone would be too much. Realistically I only have the space for a small parrot also I would have noise to worry about with the neighbours and of course they start bringing in parrots I'm going to want to keep them all!

If they are short of safe houses and you specify the type of bird and number. Not all people are able to accept multiple birds but the importance is that it is safe and looked after.

It looks like it would darn near be permanent anyways with how they operate.

You're not wrong on that second part. I think in the future when I'm a home owner it's something I want to look into. Possibly even starting up my own rescue. I think I'm going to further my accounting career and look into becoming a work at home accountant so would have plenty of time and money (hopefully) for birds. Nice future goal to work towards
