I have 6 parakeets . mango pineapple . riah . amd sunshine baby not named yet .. And my love cotton goffin cockatoo
I have had cotton goin on 4 weeks he is a goffin cockatoo . we have made some progress he comes down from his play stand walks around for a mintue and he goes back up .. Several times a day i hold millet up to him and he has started to come grab a bite he grabs a bite then walks to one side of the play stand to eat it .. So we are making progress . i want so bad to hold him and just cuddle together . i know i have to be patient im not trying to push him him were going at his pace .. How long do you guys think it will take .. He is so quiet and calm just hope he becomes a cuddle bird .. I hate so bad that he was ignored and left in a cage with his previous owner. Poor thing appears to not even know what human contact is or how to play i have put perches in his cage and he wont even sit on them he just sits on the bar around his water dish or just climbs on the bars of the cage .. You would think his poor little feet hurt from clinging to the side of the cage

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
the reality is that you don't know exactly what was going on in his previous home. to come and take food from you and be okay with some contact is really good for 4 weeks

honestly though, asking how long it can take is like asking how long a piece of string is. Although at this rate I suspect it shouldn't be "too" long, really it just needs for him to drop that wall he's built up. The second he does and finds out you're not there to hurt him he's going to demand you make up for the time he spent without those cuddles

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Goffins are naturally very sociable and can be loving and cuddly. Hard to know how much "baggage" Cotton carries from the past home. Go no faster than his speed, understanding one month is still fairly new given his background.

Small steps to first build trust are essential. A favored treat is helpful, as is sitting with him and reading softly. They are extremely keen observers and learn to be reactive. I am surprised he is not more comfortable in the cage. Does he have access to viewing your other birds?
