I get buzzed multiple times a day. I can feel her belly and both wings as she zooms overhead: Nee-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-o-o-o-o-o-o-ow! I can also tell she thinks it's hilarious. It must be because I can't stop laughing. :)

Of all my birds only one does this; the others land on my head when they do this sort of thing. The one who does does it with intent to maim or kill! He launches flying attacks and hovers while trying to bite.

My moms DYH does that. She also likes to land on people. If you're on her good side, she'll aim for your shoulder. If you're on her bad side, she'll dive bomb you, bite and claw then fly away.

May you always be on Kizzy's good side:D

Lucky my first Cockatiel does this. It's like a contest, let's see how close I can come THIS time .
One time he flew between my face and the computer monitor while I was using the computer.

None of my other birds do this.

I am glad to know others parronts have seen this behavior.

Here is a picture of the monster. He first follows you around looking cute to disarm you. The bird literally has no fear. He has never had any fear. I don't even think he is being MEAN I think he just likes to watch you react! He is basically the little brother from hell.

Syd seems to have just found this game. He waits til I'm occupied then comes at me taking a last minute swerve. He was lightly clipped before he moved in so I don't know what he will be like when he replaces those missing feathers, but it looks like he's already on target practise.

Yep, our Mister Duke does it. With new people, to gauge their reactions, and sometimes because he's bored. I love it, I think it's so cool to have such a smart creature around.

Oh yes! The fly-by with head bong occurs when Tsali is doing something he knows isn't allowed and I tell him NO. He will fly from another room bounce off my head and go back to doing his NO-NO.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Define "buzz."

If by buzz you mean I set them down, and they fly back to me "No! I'm coming with you..." And I set them down again, and they fly back to me "No! Really, I'm coming with you..."

Which occasionally starts the "I'm coming too!" nonsense with the other birds.

Which occasionally starts little birdie jealousy things about whose turn it is, and who called dibs first....

Which can wear a person out!

This has become a major issue for us at the moment because the majority of my flock (all my ringies) are in the aviary waiting for our household goods to get here from Hawaii, including their big cages.

The tame ones are feeling neglected between that, the new baby, etc, so it's somewhat tricky to leave the aviary. They try to follow...

Nohea (green) and Isana (cinnamon green) are the worst offenders and of course Saeed (creamino) but he has ulterior motives.

To those owned by ringnecks: THEY! ARE! GORGEOUS! I understand how a person would be tempted to get one of each color. That's a short-lived fantasy because of how labor-intensive a relationship with a parrot is.

I'm sure that an aviary full of ringnecks is a labor of love. It (briefly) made me want my own aviary full of colorful ringies.

I've had a lot of those fantasies lately. I imagined life with a Moluccan cockatoo, a greenwinged macaw, a black-headed or white-bellied caique and now an aviary full of gorgeous, talkative ringies. Thirty years ago, blue ringnecks were extremely expensive. I bet the cost has come down. Still, I think one parrot is all I can handle.

It really is, but I'll tell you it's a lot LESS labor now than it was when we all lived in a tiny apartment with no yard and they lived in individual cages!

The blues are fairly inexpensive now unless you go to someone who does a lot to socialize and wean them properly, or certain pet stores sell them for as much as $800 each but most breeders charge much less. For some reason selling wild Irns is still a popular practice which blows my mind since this species is nearly impossible to tame if not raised trusting humans.

One interesting difference between owning an aviary full rather than just a couple is that they truly are a flock unto themselves. Most parronts have to be the flock for their fids, and that's still true of my companion parrots, but the majority of my ringies are not tame and have no desire to interact with me. They are their own society. It's really something special to observe! In the wild they travel in flocks of dozens, hundreds, even thousands; watching them live and interact with each other is an honor :)

Some of the tame ones even prefer the company of the flock and I'll let them stay outside if they want when their cages get here (we still get daily snuggles), but Nohea seems very eager to come back inside so she will right away. Isana, Kaleo, and Hammie I haven't decided yet, and they may go back and forth for a while until I figure out which they prefer. The others would be very upset to have to go back to cage life I think.

As for other species, I would love a mustache parakeet! But they are very loud and I have an infant. I've also always dreamed of caiques but honestly with the severity of my Ringneck addiction I doubt I'll ever have the emotional stamina to handle their antics for more than a few weeks, and considering their lifespan I somehow doubt I'll be getting one any time soon; or ever! At least with mustaches when life gets frustrating I can put them out in the aviary with the ringies to work off some energy!!

does it though? We're both very aware of why. It's that green stuff in the wallet. A net, a tiny petco budgie cage and a bag of seed is a lot cheaper than going through the proper method. Then you sell that bird off and make $600 in profit never speaking to the buyer ever again.

Makes. Me. Sick.

It's no secret around here that I breed birds. Members are more than welcome to take issue with that and I'm more than happy to sit down and discuss why and how I do what I do and how it is HELPING unwanted parrots, not hurting them. But yeah, a lot of people are just in it for the dough and those are the people who ruin everything for everyone. An IRN SHOULD be expensive, so should a budgie! They should cost enough to let the breeder pour hours into them every day to make them the happiest, healthiest, best possible bird they can be. Instead parrot mills use money saving cruel damaging shortcuts like early clipping, force weaning, etc to drop the prices so low that the only way to make money is to sell hundreds or thousands of them at a time.

This is what gets me. They drop prices so low they need to sell so many instead of getting such well cared for birds they only need to sell 10's a year. Like surely it's more work to have that many birds and to convince people that's correct. Even the dumbest person will walk into a place where a bird is cared for and recognize they're cared for.

Really any pet selling needs to be regulated and info put out everywhere. I'd argue for people to have to go on an online course to get a license to own the pet they're looking for. Imagine how quickly a system like that would change pet trade

Even though it would make my life much more difficult I would LOVE to see solid regulations on pet breeding. The problem is that most laws the that effect actually do more harm than good because neither the legislators nor the voters actually understand the issues.

People get pretty upset sometimes when they see my contract. It is incredibly strict, and legally binding. I actually retain ownership of all my babies and the adopters pay a one time fee for a "life long lease" that ends when the bird dies or when the human no longer wants to live with the bird.that insures the bird comes back TO ME and never ends up on Craigslist no matter what happens to the family. I even offer a reward to anyone who finds one of my birds for sale or adoption anywhere and contacts me.

It basically decides people into two groups; the ones more worried about "getting their money back" if they get tired of the bird (aka people who I don't want to send a bird home with anyway) and people who love the idea of breeders maintaining a life long supporting relationship with the bird and family and protecting the birds they produce (people who might actually be decent homes!).
