My birds and I have a new YouTube channel! I recently uploaded a time-lapse of our daily cleaning routine (watch below). I'm curious to know how others go about cleaning cages, playgyms/stands, aviaries... anything bird related!

P.S. Don't worry - the brown paper card I use is not grit - it is just a safe paper that they like to shred and destroy (especially my aviary birds). Also, on the day I filmed the video, the birdies just got some leafy home grown spinach, but they get a variety of different fruits and veggies throughout the week. My birds have never had issues with rope perches, hence why there are a couple in the aviary. The leftover seed goes to the bird-feeder for the wild birds.

Cute!!

We clean every day; my African grey is a dusty bird and we clean up and wipe things down daily. It never ends!

Ah I know the feeling! My cockatiel is also super dusty, I have to keep an air purifier in the room to keep it a bit more clean haha.

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
We have a very unique set up for Salty. He only spends aout 2 hrs in the AM from 10 to noon in his cage, and he poops from his sleeping perch, no where else, so we scrub the grating and change papers under that every day. He only gets dry foods in the cage ( pellets and walnut or 2 ) so no food flinging. He is let out at noon, and onto his main hangout. Its 8 feet of plastic chain anchored to the ceiling at both ends and his toys hang from that. His main feeding station is a rouund rope boing hanging from the ceiling, and under it is a 4 foot diameter stainless steel bowl, lined with paper towels, and a round bar b cue grating over theat. Cleaning is a matter of changing the papers and giving the owl a good scrubing with water and poop off. Takes all of 15 minutes. I've had parrots efore and y far this is insanely easy to keep very clean. Salty is not a flinger, and what ever he drops falls into the bowl. I lucked into a whole bunch of these bowls, which are super $$$ and i got them for free. Compared to what most other parrot owners have to go through, cleaning cages and play stands etc, I almost feel guilty. Almost.
You can see pics of our set up in my pic folder right here on Parrot Forums. I have a few bowls left if anyone wats to pay shipping for it.

Fantastic! Sounds a lot like us. Nigel does fling his food but not far flung! He only eats dry food in his indoor cage as well, helps a lot. 15 mins a day is all we need. But because he’s dusty i spray water and lemon and give it a good wipe down daily, again, takes little time since i don’t allow for buildup.

Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
I clean every evening after Syd has gone off to bed. A paint brush for the nooks and crannies with water wash where necessary then tray out, wipe out, change paper. Every 3/4 days I steam clean the whole thing wiping down as I go. All the toys are done this way and the 2 play stands as well. I have it down to under 10mins.

Syd has gradually learned where to poop which has made life easier

Enzo - adopted Female CAG circa 2004. A truly amazing young lady!
I dont find my CAG dusty at all, but i did have a cockatiel previously. I jet wash her cage weekly, i wash her food bowls thoroughly (4 pairs around the house). I brush up it seems 1000000000000000 times a day, after enzo throws everything on the floor.

Commonly, I start a the front door with the leaf blower and work out the back door, then out into the yard! After that, section the house and run each section through the car wash! Place everything back in location and hope that nothing is out of place before Mrs Boats comes home. Bribe the Amazon by going to Mickey'D's' drive thru for lunch. Yes, he gets to place the order! :D
