As many of you know, the past couple of days have been scary ones for me. Being a relatively new parront, I'm not quite emotionally equipped for things I haven't encountered before. I do my best by searching and reading previous threads on topics, but when it really counts, I'm so glad that there are people out there ready to offer support and advice 'in the moment'. Bellas impaling and Gerry's broken bloodfeather were both very scary events for me (and them) and it is only because of this fine community of dedicated people that I was able to keep a level head, calm myself down, and remain positive during these events.

When Bella had her accident, all the things I'd read about 'being prepared' was suddenly very relevant and very real! Seconds do count! I also noted that after ensuring she had an avian vet to see, and after the offending objects had been removed from my birds cages, the first thing I thought of was all the parrotforums people, and I made sure I let you all know what had happened.

Accidents definitely do happen, and double and triple checking things should be normal. Just because something is sold as being designed for birds - does not mean it is safe. Sharing knowledge and experience is what helps us keep our birds safe. I feel terrible for not having realised the potential danger of the thin quicklinks with larger birds, I hadn't realised that that my baby could unscrew them (she hadn't before.) I learnt the hard way. But hopefully talking about this event might have helped to save a bird from a terrible fate. So I am glad I shared.

I know I keep saying "thanks". The word alone looks rather weak upon reflection, but I want you all to know just how much I really appreciate all the support and advice - especially with me being the antisocial hermit that I am. I don't really have a 'real world' support network for when things like this happen, so having you guys to lean on and learn from in times of need brings great relief and comfort.

Thank you everyone for being so great xxx

I can't even comprehend how many birds (and people) have been both directly and indirectly helped by the parrotforums... but I bet it's a big'ol number!

Maybe you could share your feelings about how parrotforums people have helped you and your fid(s)?

Thank-you for your kind words! Parrot Forum is full of individuals with learned knowledge that help everyday! I Thank each of them, as you have!

The Parrot Forums of Today is rich with very experienced Parrot owners and Breeders. The ethical level of Parrot Forum's members is one of the strongest reason for my first becoming and remaining a member.

I came to Parrot Forums with a vast knowledge of Amazons and a lesser knowledge of other Parrots. I had joined when 'henpecked' and 'Birdman666' had been very active. It was also a time, much like today, when there was a larger number of other very active and experienced Parrot owners and Breeders. Many still active today!

The knowledge base found within each of the Forums continues to grow as does the knowledge of our Avian Vets! The flow of that information into Parrot Forums, keeps it at the forefront. Add to that growing knowledge base is the openness of Parrot Forums to those new finds from our Avian Researchers and our Certified Avian and Avian Qualified Vets as they join in bring an ever richer understanding of the foundation of Health and Medical Care.

In addition to the health knowledge is the ever growing knowledge of the different approaches to methods of Bonding with our Parrots. Parrot Forum has been open to balanced approach to the different methods found to work in an ethical manner.

That all said, it is the want for the ethical care and support of the membership, as a whole, for the Loving Care of our Parrots that is most inspiring. For all this to occur in a safe environment requires the guidance of a caring group of moderators who have a want to maintain and foster that balance.

As a new moderator for Parrot Forums, I can say that Parrot Forums' exists each day resulting from the strong efforts by the Administrators and Super Moderators to Find and keep the Forum first safe from the ugliness of what craws around the internet and second, when the discussions regarding our Parrots and their care become emotionally intense.

KNOWLEDGE that is not shared is knowledge that is lost! Take what you learn from this knowledge base and make it part of yourself and then when you find that it works with success! Share that knowledge with others.

And as an FYI: Use with delight! The THANK-YOU button anytime you find that a fellow member has taken important time from their busy day, to respond to either your's or another members need!

Loved your post, Violet_Diva, and it mirrors much of what I've felt over the years for this amazing community. As Steven has already so eloquently expressed, there is something very special and unique about the members, here. This is as much a place of learning and support as it is one of shared joys and laughter, and I wouldn't trade it for any other avian community out there.

I'm pretty new to Parronthood and these forums, but I already feel a strange sort of bond with all of you. Like many of you, I have few "real world" friends, I just have my husband and my Yoda. But we all share this precious joy and love that we all found in our feathered children. :)
Thanks for you kind words Violet!!
