Nike a Hawk Head Parrot (Deroptyus accipitrinus)
After over 2 years Nike is finally acting like a parrot. First chewing she's done since I got her and she's been using this cheapo play stand for a year.

I'm pretty happy about it though, I kinda miss the antics of my OWA.

Bill it could be worse, like that member in Austrailia where the wild cockatoos chew their way INTO a house!

Wow... I'm always amazed at the efficient destruction our feathered kids are capable of!!! For some reason I find myself feeling oddly proud of Yoda when he manages to destroy something I didn't think his little beak could possibly shred. :)

I had a conversation with someone in a bird supplies shop today about balsa wood.

They didn't think it was worth selling because birds just shred through it so fast...

I informed her that 5 minutes shredding balsa is better than 5 minutes shredding my laptop!

I bet Nike was having a whale of a time chewing while she did!

Sam, I'd have to agree with them, balsa for a full sized parrot is kinda expensive. A good medium density white wood is cheaper and keeps them busy much longer. I bet the strip of wood, 1/4" thick by 1" wide by 12" long kept her busy for 5 hours over the course of 2 days. :)
