Okay guys, here's the deal. Dad brought home a free lovebird from the Humane Society a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't been able to spend time with Noah. I can't play with him in the basement because he can hear the budgies (the aviary's in the basement) and Rosie (she's on the main floor), and he gets upset and wants to see them. I can't snuggle with him in the aviary because, pardon my Spanish, he gets pissy with me because Rumi (his girlfriend) is in there, and he's been beating me up the past week or so (he was attacking Mom when I had her babysit while I was away).

I can't have him on the main floor because Rosie's there and they call to each other. He freaking flies over to her cage, and it's game over from there. They end up spending the next half hour flirting, trying to bite each other's toes, screaming... It's a pain in the butt. And Noah won't listen to me when I ask him to step up for me when he's playing on Rosie's cage.

If I bring him upstairs, he gets upset because he doesn't like being upstairs, and he can also still hear Rosie. Like, what am I supposed to do? I want to cuddle with him and play with him, but I can't because he gets agitated when he hears the others. He used to nest in my hair at night, and I used to preen him, train with him, and give him kisses on his little baby beak. I need my little demon child >_<

Unfortunately lovebirds are one species that almost never stays sweet when they have another lovebird as a mate. I’m sure there are examples of individuals defying this stereotype but I have never met a sexually mature lovebird that had another sexually mature lovebird in the Home and was still a hands-on pet. If that is important to you, you may need to decide if keeping the second lovebird is really the best option for your flock and family.

That's just the thing—they aren't even the same species. Noah's a parrotlet and Rosie's a lovebird. It just so happens that those species are a lot alike. Both have terrible social skills, enjoy biting, have bad tempers, similar vocalizations... Maybe I'm going to have to just try harder with Noah. I've been neglecting him these past few months. I used to do daily training sessions, have him help me get fresh water for everyone, snuggle for hours in the evening...
