Hi guys, I thought I'll be getting a pyrrhura, but I like even bit more Poicephalus species, better said, like...I like how they look like and would need advice, because I have a very good offer, which I need to solve fast. Keeper is my best friends friend, So He don't want to sell to me ať all costs. He said, that the parrots are fed under the parrots and not hand fed and that it could lead to thé point that the Parrot won't make a good pet. Is it a rule? Or can the bird get used to me and become a good pet? I don't need the Parrot to be on my hand and behind my neck all thé time, but yes, Id like him to be bit handable. The species Hes offering are Poicephalus meyeri and Poicephalus cryptoxanthus. He said that cryptoxanthus seems to be a bit calmer than meyeri, Is it by thé nature or Its individual? Please, I need to know info and resolve this, because I had to put a reservation on the bird and it seems, that 15th of Apríl I'll be posting a photo of my new friend:) many thanx in advance

Parent raised birds will require more effort to "tame' but it 100% can be done and they can certainly become wonderful, loving companions! With any parrots, you get out what you put in. You will need to expect at least a few weeks or possibly months before a parent raised bird will start stepping up reliably and to be trusting of you. It is likely when first brought home, parent raised birds will be either frightened or nippy, whereas most hand reared come home already pretty trusting of humans and probably already stepping up. There are some positives in the health department for parent raised birds. Being fed the "natural way" by their parents gives them important probiotics that help build a healthy immune system formulas (currently) cannot imitate.

I'll let the poicephalus owners chime in about the species typical characteristics because I honestly know little about them.

Yet a question. Do You think He may be a better pet than Pyrrura or I should rather pick gcc, for what I'm searching right now, there Is really wide variety of them here

What characteristics/qualities do you like more about poicephalus VS conures?

Is there any chance the breeder will let you "meet" the baby birds (even if you can't handle them) before deciding to reserve one? Parrot personalities are as wide ranging as human personalities. You may find one individual really stands out for some reason and you'll know it's the perfect bird for you to bring home once it's weaned or get there and find none of the birds hold much interest.

Hello, Im not yet totally convinced about either, but like both Pyrrhura and Poicephalus, Poicephalus I like alot the congolese one because of colour and aswell the keeper told me, that they are good talkers. I found lot of conures very attractive for me aswell. If there should be 2,3 which of them would You point out to be most attractive colour wise? Noise is not much of an issue, because I live in big house in the rural area, the distances of houses are really big and I even asked a nearby house neighbor if the noise wont be a problem. Yes, I found both of the species equally attractive, but maybe because of the many replays were as for Pyrrhura choice than Ill end up with one. There is a big expo in nearby city every month, so I wont rush and Ill try to discuss here yet and aswell try to research internet bit more:) greetings from Czech and happy Easter!

I personally would go the the bird expo and let the bird pick you. There are so many factors at play here other than color. You should try to pick the bird based on personally and connection if at all possible.

You have really beautiful parrots, I looked for a Aratinga nenday and there is very few offers here in Czech, but one keeper should provide me a contact yet. The sun conure Is aswell very nice. How would You rate their noise from 1 to 10, even Its not much of an issue, I'm interested. Thank You

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to colorations. My blue front has very little blue for his species, an undesirable trait to some people, but I still find him an overall good looking bird. His appearance actually did not factor at all in my choice to adopt him. I could really care less what he looks like to be honest. What I adore is his personality. Which bird you find most attractive cosmetically is highly subjective. It is also among the least important factors when considering any individual bird. My bird is very smart, fiercely independent and quite amusing, all qualities I admire in a companion animal. I'll take a compatible personality to subjectively better looks any day.

From my (limited) knowledge of conures and poicephalus "typical" personality traits, I would likely find the poi personality more in line with what I *personally* like in a bird- independent and strong willed. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of the "cute and cuddly" factor for those attributes myself. Conures are very well known for being "velcro birds" meaning they tend to be very cuddly and they want to be glued to you 24/7. Personally, I would not really appreciate that quality in a bird so much, but many many people really want a bird who is very contact oriented. What traits are important to you in a bird?

When it comes down to which species is "better" there is no right or wrong answer. It really depends on what characteristics you're looking for in a companion parrot:)

My guy isn't terribly loud. When he screams it's loud and he screams a fair amount but it's always for a well known reason. I have seen some sun conures that just randomly make noise like every second of their lives with no way to control it because it's just part of their personalities. It really depends but mine is very tolerable to me but there are some people that come over and can't deal with it very well. However, my Nanday takes the Cake on noise...he is so loud.
