pricey but worth it?

Know any good products that are on the pricier side but are good to have when you have a parrot?
I finally got a regularly paying job and it isn't much but it allows me to start saving up for more things to spoil my boy with. I want to make a small list of things I should save for so I have a goal, right now I have: New cage and Pak-o-bird

A Java tree stand! I think that would definitely be after the other two things on the list though.

know any sources to buy one possibly online? doubt it since it sounds like something that wouldn't be easy to assemble. I'll have to look into bird stores around me

I struggle with Java trees. I want one really badly but when I put them against a fairly sized play top cage, Java trees don’t hold a candle. You know ekkies don’t have the greatest perching strength and often struggle with sand blasted perch material, so you’ll have to wrap it in vet tape which isn’t pretty. Also, Java trees to me are much more restricting as to the space over which the bird can move nlargely 3 branches in 2 dimensions. Whereas with a nice play top cage they have so much more surface areal roam around: up down, inside, outside.

If I had to recommend anything myself, it’d be a nice play top cage in lieu of any kind of play stand.

buy some tools and materials and get creative. you can order branches and make your own stand the way you want it.

I thought I'd make a quick video of our stand. I bought this off Amazon, however I looked it up and they seem to be out at the moment but they will probably restock at some point. However, I do notice that the bird stores I go to usually have a few java stands you can buy just like this one.

Java stands for us and our wingdow items. And birdie go-gos/pack o birds. I added java tree root swings and lots of other things to add play area to my stands.

I was going to immediately say a Pak-O-Bird.

As far as play stands and such, I have always made my own, either out of wood branches I find outside and driftwood I find by streams and the ocean, or out of PVC and various craft items. The PVC ones aren't hard to make, Lowes is the best place to buy the PVC tubing and such, and the only tools you would need to buy are a PVC cutter, which is a $15 hand-tool, and simple household tools like a screwdriver, rubber mallet, etc. to attach things. I have a play-gym that I made that takes up almost a whole room, my Senegal plays on it all day long.

As far as bird stuff goes, I never thought it was "price" that mattered, but rather what they like. After all, they are happy foraging in a cardboard box filled with crumpled-up newspaper and such, and they love ripping and shredding wooden sticks and blocks, lol...

The Pak-O-Bird is an awesome yet expensive treat, an Aviator Harness if he doesn't already have one, maybe a very nice Manzita or Java stand, but that's honestly more for you, as they look very cool in your home, lol. Maybe a huge cage with an elaborate play-gym on top...

How about an outdoor cage/aviary/play area for him?

Pack-O-Bird and an outdoor aviary would be my votes. they even make one that is reasonably priced. LOL, the Aviary might even cost LESS than a PoB. But include a bit of $$$ for a concrete pad for the aviary.

You’re in Colorado .... does Manzanita grow there! That’s what is most often used in bird trees. Smooth wood, no bark, hard dense wood and easy to clean. There are mail order places that sell grape vine and manzanita pieces - florists and caterers use them a lot - and they might be cheaper than a pet supply place. You can probably make better toys than you can buy, so stainless steel bells, those cages to put food in, which are pricy and hard to make are worth buying. I even found a place that sells “invisible” stainless steel mesh like is used in the pak-o-bird, as well as other forms of SS fencing/mesh/wire etc., will go find the link if you’re interested.

No idea if Manzanita grows here and I don't know of Colorado has a suitable climate for an outdoor aviary
Our winters are snow really really hard one day and be -10f and then be 50f the next day and melt everything then rinse and repeat. "Spring" is a couple weeks of snow then just rain for days. Summer is 100+f and everything is dry and dead or on fire. (we've had a consistent fire ban for about a year now in my neighborhood) fall is practically non-existent.

Sounds like California! Used to tell people we just had two seasons: wet and dry. To tell the difference, look at the trees. If they are on fire, it’s the dry season.
