Dangerous Toy!!

A good friend from another forum lost her very dear Amazon tonight. She became entangled in a toy she had just purchased from Foster and Smith. The toy is called the Toopet Toy. It has long soft cotton rope. It was deemed safe for larger parrots. If you have this toy please remove it immediately!! Here is a link to the toy:Toopet Bird Toy

Sorry that she lost it, poor thing . I'd be devastated...

There is is similar one in the pet shop near my home and it is huge. £30.

I was tempted for Cal but I thought it would be too easy for her to get lost in. I can see how your friend thought such a big bird would have a lot of fun with it.

I hope she is not blaming herself. It is these huge companies who care about nothing but profit that are accountable.

Oh, I am so sorry! The toy looks like so much fun, but I guess all those dangly bits could be a problem....

How awful is this. I guess the lesson here is just because something says safe for birds does not mean it is safe. The guardian must be devastated. Please convey my condolences.

OH how sad. We buy toys to make their life fun and a tragedy happens. I am heartbroken for your friend!

Please let your friend no that she is in all our thoughts and that we will increase our scrutiny of "safe" toys that have long loops.

Let's try not to assume the worst about the toy company either. It's possible that they have sold tens of thousands (or more) of these things, and have only had a few problems. We can judge them by what they do about this problem now though.

Just remember, many kids get killed each year playing baseball, football, etc. I would hate to have been denied the boyhood joys of playing baseball because of the small risk of me getting hurt. (Dodger blue, through and through!) Unfortunately, the risk of death is a natural (but still very painful) part of growing up. Sadly, our fids have to somehow survive 50 years of "childhood" curiosity and recklessness, whereas we just have to make it through our teens til we get more cautious.

Again, sorry about her fid...I'm sure he's being welcomed by all of our other lost babies right now...like a little kid in a new neighborhood finding some friends at the local baseball diamond.

That is a shame... poor fid and poor guardian.
