Hi All,

I wanted to bring up safety planning for fids in the event of a major weather event. I live in Dickinson, TX and we received Hurricane Harvey without a warm welcome last year. We were blessed, only took some water in the garage and front door but we have a lot of family that lost their homes and the past year we've been helping family get back on their feet.

When I first joined this forum, someone had started a thread about preparing for emergencies with our fids. When Harvey hit, I had three fids, but two travel cages however, I had just received a new wire dog kennel. We had to evacuate but before the storm hit, I had set up the travel cages, and converted the new dog kennel into a temporary bird travel cage. I also had setup food ready to go as well as blankets. When we evacuated I was able to load all three cages with happy fids in the back seat of my truck, and three dogs in my Husband's truck. We went through some high water but safely made it to a friend's home where I stacked my fids, got them setup and covered them to calm them. They did really well, but for all, think about having preparations in place for risky weather events. I've already prepped my travel cages hoping it's pointless this year. i was very happy I had items in place and could split in a jiffy.

This is truly a great and timely idea for a Thread.

The 'I Love Amazons - ... Thread' (Sticky) in the Amazon Forum has the foundation for great Emergency /First Aid kit.
