So in the room where Lincoln's cage is, I have a bag of freeze dried chicken dog treats. Somehow my dad thought it was for Lincoln? And gave him a piece? It's just straight chicken with no added ingredients so it's not gonna hurt him, just a little protein, but??? dad???? Why????

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
LOL! Definitely avoid in the future but I am sure it will be fine.

Dog food has some sketchy quality standards, but before I knew that, I used to test my dog's biscuits as a kid lol and I survived. Plus, in the wild, I assume birds would eat things that were a bit sketchy as well.

Since birds will encounter and eat a little protein - I think that will be no problem.
Saying that...I have no ekkie experience of course ;)

Way before parrotpellets even existed (yup I am *that* old) I got the advise from my avian vet to try to get my plucking grey to eat some dry dogfood - in the hope that if there was a nourishmentproblem it would get solved that way.
I probably ate handfulls of that stuff to try to convince him it was goooood- but he never fell for it.
What he *did* like to eat was chicken(leg)!
So he sat there, gnawing away on his (very) distant cousin/niece happy as a clam, waving the legbone around in between bites...
doctors orders!

If you are just as caring and vigilant looking at the quality of the dogtreats as you are with the Lincoln-food I am sure there will be no nasties lurking in said dogtreat.

As I said, it's just straight chicken with nothing added. I'm not worried it will affect Lincoln in anyway. Just thought it would be funny to share.

Oh, okay... maybe I misread some concern, sorry.

It is a funny mistake.

been relentlessly teasing him about it. I was concerned at first when he said "oh I have Lincoln a piece of chicken" I thought he was referring to chicken he made for himself and he usually uses a lot of spices that I'm not sure if they all art entirely parrot safe but yeah, just some straight freeze dried chicken isn't gonna hurt him x)
