Cairo the Ekkie!
I want to hear everything! The smallest things they do, the amazing huge accomplishments, and everything in between. And it doesn't have to be just one thing :)

I'll start:
When Cairo starts practicing speech (especially when we're in public), even when it's unintelligible (and it's both my partner's baritone voice and my alto voice), I'm always so proud - I'll stop everything just to listen to him and to help him prolong his practice period. Sure, half the time, he sounds possessed (especially when he starts laughing in both our voices), but he's our little fid practicing human speech to the best of his ability <3

What a great idea!

Boo can TALK, which is rare for a cockatiel, it really only started happening this year. He used to mutter things but now he can actually alliterate and he says 'whatchu doin?' and he does all kinds of crazy whistles, noises and sounds.

He also lost his mate this year while they were on eggs but managed to bounce back after losing them. He lets my husband pet him which makes me jealous (he has never let me touch him) but I'm just glad he seems happy again. He is an amazing flyer.

Ember is my sweet little guy and is so affectionate! He is only about 7 months old and loves being petted. When someone gets close he'll bend his head down to allow scratches and LOVEs being on anyone's shoulder. For a clipped bird he can get some pretty good air now that he is molting and can get across the living room.

Sammy just learned to say "hello" (moi) and "how are you?" (mitä kuluu?) in Finnish. He can also say 20+ things in Swedish.

He is bilingual now.

Nico - male Turquoise GCC
Nico’s very very good about wearing clothes.. he wears his flight suits without chewing the crap out of them/becoming fixated on getting it off. I recently got him a hoodie because it’s getting chillier out and he’s learned that his birdie hoodie means we’re going outside and gets cranky if I decide it’s warm enough for him to be without one but wear a jacket myself (“Mommy’s wearing a jacket why am I not wearing one?”)
I’m also very pleased with the fact that Nico loves all of his toys. Of course he has his preferences, but he will play with any toy I put in his cage, which means no money spent on toys goes to waste!

Love the idea of the thread.

I am short on time, just got to work but will start with Bella.

Her ability to speak and mimic noises in context.
When she goes poop she says "poopie"
When my Son grabs a glass in the kitchen she makes the sound of a soda can opening.
When we stand in front of the microwave she starts making the beeping noise of the microwave.
Her ability to mix up words and make her own sentences that almost always make sense and are grammatically correct.
Making up her on contractions "swee-gull" for sweet girl.

I could go on if I only had the time.

Hmmm - great topic!

I would have to say that I’m really proud of Bindi’s infectious happiness - I can’t stay grouchy around that bird, she’s so darned happy all the time. Makes me laugh every single day. She’ll dance to anything, and has way better rhythm than I do :)

Baby & Tango - they love their trick training, and HAVE to learn tricks together (which is challenging for me). We only do basic stuff like spin, target and wave - but they learn these things in like 5 minutes they are so quick to pick things up.

Stanley - he made so much progress on biting in a short period of time....only bird people would understand why that is a huge accomplishment :). He was a piranha with feathers and would actively go after people to tear into them....I get less than one bite per week now and he hasn’t drawn blood for more than a month.

Screamer finally grew in her flight feathers and in the last month has really started branch out. I’m not sure that she’s ever been fully flighted before (she had absolutely no clue how to land), so we’re learning to land on things and safe flight paths through the house. It’s adorable to watch her figure this out and gain confidence a bit at a time.

I'm proud of Timneh for so many things for how far she has come since I first met her. How much she loves me, and wants to be with me every minute of everyday. How well she can fly. For how much she loves to watch her tv shows. How tolerant she is of me, and how crazy humans are.

Enzo - adopted Female CAG circa 2004. A truly amazing young lady!
Many many things to be honest, from the moment Enzo chose ME to be with and the way she trained me in to a parront.

The simple things make me proud of her, the way was can communicate from
  • simply preparing to go out and she will start saying 'bye to me, if im going out for a few minutes ill tell her and she knows.
  • Asking if she wants something to eat or drink when she has been out of the cage for quite a while, she will say yes 'single tongue click' or no 'a single shake of her head'.
  • If i haven't asked her she make a water pouring sound or a lip smacking noise.
  • If i ask her to come over she will and even sometimes she will stay when i ask her to stay when i leave the room.
  • I just have to mention a shower and she makes all of the noises and gets excited.
  • I mention Max my son, and she gets excited and starts looking at the front door.
  • Thanking me by doing a sort of catholic cross on my hand when i give her something she likes
  • Reacting when i say 'hot' or 'ouch' immediately if she is getting herself into a dangerous spot

The list goes on and on, the level and ease we can communicate together is awesome and its one of the main reasons im proud to be her parront.

Bumble - Pacific (or Celestial) Parrotlet hatched 02/19/17
Bumble, despite the fact that "female parrotlets don't talk" says a handful of words and most of them in context.
  • "Peek" when we play peekaboo
  • "tickle" when she preens her chest feathers, sometimes when she preens me, and sometimes when she wants skritches (she dips her head in front of my thumb and says it)
  • "beeeeeeeeep" when i go into the kitchen, sometimes as a sort of calming contact call when I'm in the other room, and also when I use my speakerphone - especially if I'm talking to my sister (don't ask me haha),
  • "three" when I'm putting on the dog's harness (because I count one-two as I put his feet in it)
  • "drink" when we're standing at the kitchen sink - this actually means bath, but bathing in the sink started when I would ask her if she wanted a drink and then hold her by the faucet
  • "peekaboo" whenever she feels like it. If she's on my shoulder, she smacks her little head into my neck while she says it, and if she's on my hand she often reaches for my other hand.

To be fair, with the exception of "peekaboo" and "beep" which are very clear, I would have to translate all of these for you (three sounds a lot like beep but always comes after I say one-two or when I pick up the dog harness) but that makes them no less special to me.

EDIT: Oh and she makes kissy noises too!

:blue2: <--- pretend it's a parrotlet

Hmmm. I'm proud that Kevin now easily venture out of his cage (we're making a stand for him a big step!), that he gives kisses on my hand every time I pass by, that he now steps up onto a stick, that he says "bye" on cue, and that he is turning into a real part of our family.

I'm proud that Java allows me to handle him without too much hassle, especially for an untamed former breeder. He doesn't talk, and I don't expect him to, but he's a lot more vocal than he was in the beginning. The fact that he trusts me is a milestone in itself.

I'm very proud of Perjo's ability to speak and in context, she can probably say 15-0 phrases, but I'm more proud of her general demeanor and behavior and awareness. I'll go up to the second floor to shower she'll fly off her cage to go to the staircase to start to make her way up to call for me and look for me.

The Rickeybird, 38-year-old Patagonian Conure
I've been looking sideways at this thread for a while... wondering what I might share...

I have thoroughly enjoyed y'all's lists of loved items. They all warm my heart, each and every one.

The Rb does some cool stuff and some terrible stuff. But I decided that the thing that makes me most proud of all is this. He never fails to lose sight of me... there is always one beady little eye on me, because...
When anything scary happens (a falling branch, a crashing pan, a weird move by a visitor, once when he eluded our vet's grasp and flew from his hands)... Mr. Macho Patagonian Rooster flies straight to the back of my neck, affixes himself there, and becomes silent and motionless until I make things right and reassure him.

Then, of course, he struts out like Napoleon, claiming another great victory.

That's my bird.

I'm proud when my flighted birds choose to come sit and snuggle with me. Ta-dah always lands with a big kambam very dramatic and then mumbles some and gives a kiss. Neptune lands very daintily on my finger look me in the eye and says I love you, gimme a kiss! I have to say it melts my heart every time! When Penny wants me she says be a good girl, because I say that to her so she won't bite. When she tells me be a good girl she is telling me she won't bite so come pick her up. She doesn't lie lol if she says that she Will Be Good! If she doesn't say that I have to just take my chances lol

Bingo my YNA.
He is my cuddle bug. I understand that Amazons aren't normally birds that like to cuddle.
He will sit on my chest and lean his wing against my cheek. There he will sit sometimes as long as 1/2 hour. Me smelling his amazon smell and scratching his neck and head.

He lets me play with him, turning him upside down pumping his feet and tickling under his wings.

He has also given me my bloodiest and most painful bites (when I don't pay attention to his body language).

I am proud of Salty. All around proud. To us he is the perfect parrot. Almost neverloud squacking, and laughs his fool head off on occasion. Will sit quietly in his cage until its time to come out, muttering newwords and phrases to himself. He loves his chop. And he loves to learn. Learn tricks and new words. Just check out some of his videos, link below. And we love him and he is a member of our family!

My Bill is a YNA and makes me proud in how he has made me a more calm person. I really love seeing him getting excited when I'm near. I have only been with Bill for just over a month and his picking me makes me feel good. I'm just starting to understand Bills noises. I'm not sure if he will talk, but I can tell when he is happy by his noises. When I let him climb on me he puts his beak on me without opening up to get a hold. When he gets comfy on my arm he almost purrs like a cat. While hes eating I like rubbing his back with my hand.

Oh I would SO pay real money to see Emperor Rickeybird Bonaparte do that :)

But seriously I am so very proud of my boy Fang. He has pretty much been my husband's Velcro bird for about the last five years or so. Lately though as I've lurched from disaster to abject failure Fang has been there for me, wanting more than the usual quota of head skritches and just happy to sit with me more than he normally would. He also tries to cheer me up by singing "I Whistle A Happy Tune" from my favourite musical "The King & I", among the other show tunes that he knows.

He's not accustomed to being the only bird in the house so he's probably a little lonely too, but he's been such a comfort to me lately I truly don't know what I'd have done without him. Nice job Fang!
