Simply heating targeted area(s) is best handled by using an electric Ceramic Heater. The good ones can be purchased at your local Hardware Store in the 70 to 100 USD range. Their fan is fairly silent on low and they come with an auto shut-off if they are overturned. Adjustable temperature is also standard. They are a standard device in Corporate Offices of the Great White North.

Remember that heat rises so you can set them on the floor out of the traffic lanes and near a wall outlet in the area you want to heat. They heat both the air and objects, so you are doubling your heating effect. That said, this type of heater works best in a room with stuff that will hold heat compared to a wide open area.

NOTE: As with all space heaters, be very mindful of not overheating it or the things around it.

I will be at the cottage tomorrow and will get the name brand we use. If I do not Post with the name by this time Thursday, please PM me. It is easy to get distracted the first day at the cottage.

One of my zebra finches (both were a gift from my friend's aviary and she has no idea if she's old or what) acts sickly when she gets a chill so I've been thinking of pulling out my old snake's reptile lamp with the ceramic heat emitter for them. Those are okay right? (The caique is in the same room.)

I'll be sure to PM you for it! I want to get one before I bring Apollo home since he's more sensitive than Lincoln when it comes to the chill.

I've been recommending the Sweeter Heater as sold in Amazon, hangs outside the cage, puts out a good amount of heat so set it off to the side, so bird can choose to sit near it or not, and don't cover cage completely when you use it. The smallest size they sell works fine. They used to be made by Avitech and I've used it for 18 years. They now show them used for chicks, and hang it over them, but hang mine vertical on the low side of the cage, but place a perch near it on the inside of the cage. Truely s wonderful radiant heat panal, I should get a kick back with how often I recommend it. It is expensive I think $116 dollars, but do worth it if you live we're it gets cold.

There is very different views regarding the safety of using that type of light /heat source with birds. Erroring on the safe side, I stay with the traditional ceramic heat source products used for office /home target heating product.

I would recommend that you start your own Thread to gather more information.

Sorry to the OP for the momentary taking over of your Thread!

I think I rather get something that can heat my entire room instead of just the cage, because then I would need to get one for Apollo AND one for Lincoln, and then I'm left out!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I use an oil-heater radiator. Safe, no fumes, and relatively energy efficient.

What we have been using for near 20 years for support heating (when needed) is a Ceramic Disc Heater, web search: pelonis ceramic disc heater hc-0145. Other like products are available on today's market.

If your plan is to heat this room with only a space heater, it can get fairly expensive. There are several factors that will affect your success in heating a room: Size of room, number of access door and whether they can be closed, Interior door(s) only, a combination of interior and exterior doors or only exterior doors, the number of windows, their size and how well they are sealed.

If you are using it as support for your home /apartment heating system, You will have better success and lower operating costs. Remember that this type of unit needs up to 12.5 amps and should be on an Circuit Breaker rated at 20 amps.

Note: If your problem is that this room is at the end of a forced air heating duct. You may want to consider having an inline duct fan added, which would pull more air to this room.

It's for an averaged bedroom sized room. It's to support the household heating system because it doesn't heat the room very well but is fine in every other part of the house but even then my family generally keeps the temp on the lower end... 1 door, 1 window. Nothing fancy...

Do you think this would work? Description says 200sqft of room space but... so did a smaller model on the lowes website so I'm not sure how accurate that is.

196 sqft would equal a 14' x 14' bedroom. The placement of the heater in relationship with the bed and window will have some effect. The heater should be on the side of the bed the birds are on.

Is this bedroom over an unheated space like a garage or craw space?

Hope this helps. Please talk with the bill payer of the household as the short term cost of buying a unit and the electrical demand it requires can equal the cost of running the home a bit warmer.

FYI: Most everyone forgets to adjust their floor /wall vents between Summer and Winter. In the Winter the vents closest to the furnace should be barely open with the vents further away should be fully open. This is so often missed and worth doing a check.

Hope this helps
