Simply heating targeted area(s) is best handled by using an electric Ceramic Heater. The good ones can be purchased at your local Hardware Store in the 70 to 100 USD range. Their fan is fairly silent on low and they come with an auto shut-off if they are overturned. Adjustable temperature is also standard. They are a standard device in Corporate Offices of the Great White North.

Remember that heat rises so you can set them on the floor out of the traffic lanes and near a wall outlet in the area you want to heat. They heat both the air and objects, so you are doubling your heating effect. That said, this type of heater works best in a room with stuff that will hold heat compared to a wide open area.

NOTE: As with all space heaters, be very mindful of not overheating it or the things around it.

I will be at the cottage tomorrow and will get the name brand we use. If I do not Post with the name by this time Thursday, please PM me. It is easy to get distracted the first day at the cottage.

Re: safe space heater?

One of my zebra finches (both were a gift from my friend's aviary and she has no idea if she's old or what) acts sickly when she gets a chill so I've been thinking of pulling out my old snake's reptile lamp with the ceramic heat emitter for them. Those are okay right? (The caique is in the same room.)

I'll be sure to PM you for it! I want to get one before I bring Apollo home since he's more sensitive than Lincoln when it comes to the chill.

I've been recommending the Sweeter Heater as sold in Amazon, hangs outside the cage, puts out a good amount of heat so set it off to the side, so bird can choose to sit near it or not, and don't cover cage completely when you use it. The smallest size they sell works fine. They used to be made by Avitech and I've used it for 18 years. They now show them used for chicks, and hang it over them, but hang mine vertical on the low side of the cage, but place a perch near it on the inside of the cage. Truely s wonderful radiant heat panal, I should get a kick back with how often I recommend it. It is expensive I think $116 dollars, but do worth it if you live we're it gets cold.

There is very different views regarding the safety of using that type of light /heat source with birds. Erroring on the safe side, I stay with the traditional ceramic heat source products used for office /home target heating product.

I would recommend that you start your own Thread to gather more information.

Sorry to the OP for the momentary taking over of your Thread!

I think I rather get something that can heat my entire room instead of just the cage, because then I would need to get one for Apollo AND one for Lincoln, and then I'm left out!
