I'm back

Hello! I am not sure if anyone remembers me but I was here awhile ago asking questions about my birds (Budgies and Goffins Cockatoo). Well some things happened. I am currently in the process of reflooring my room and it is going to be completly taken over by the birds. I also have two new budgies and a Sun Conure. The budgies really arnt as big of a deal as they are happy in my flight cage with the rest of the flock. They (A male and female) came from a freind of my cousin who needed to get rid of them as he was just overwelmed with what he had going on in his life. So I took them, quarentined them and they intigrated just fine into my flock. Now for the big one. Tango is a young sun conure, the last owners gave me an estimate of about 2-3 years. He is currently quarentined from my other birds. He was on a seed diet and as of this moment still is. He screams quiet a lot, I dont think he was let out much in his last home. I got him through a coworker. Her daughter (who has 5 small children) had to get rid of her pets due to her new landlord. My mother actually agreed before telling me, although I probably would have said yes anyways. The cage he came in was a travel cage and it was very dirty. There were bits of toys and dried poop every where. There was also quiet a bit of junkfood (human food) at the bottem of the cage. The few toys that were in there were dirty and older, they had been chewed on alot. He didnt have any food or water in his bowls although they did come quiet a ways to get to my town so he might have dumped it out. I dont think I would have taken him on in any other situation as I am a high school student and I already have a Cockatoo. Especially since I dont have my "bird room" done yet. Its due to be finished in July. I just figured I would share my current siutation with you all.

Re: I'm back

What a recipe for fungal , yeast, or bacterial infection! Yuck! So glad you can rescue this one. The screaming might very well calm down as the life of the bird improves. My Penny was in a gross cage, she herself was covered in poop her feathers wher matted with gook. And she screamed her head off, now she is happy and quiet, except for talking and happy purrs, some beeps and barks. So I hope your sun decompresses and the noise level comes down. Thanks for the rescues!!

Re: I'm back

Wow, you sure have your hands full as a high school student!!! I had a Jenday in high school but had to rehome him when I went to college as my parents are not animal people and my dorm would not allow him to come with me. Super sad for both of us when I had to rehome him.

Just make sure you have a plan for when college or dating happens, nothing is sadder then taking in birds needing a home but having to rehome them later on because your own life becomes too hectic or you can't afford to care for them.

I don't usually recommend birds for high school student, as your life is about to change drastically (expanding social life, dating, traveling) and I really hope you have given this all much thought and have a plan for when you are on your own in the future and in your own home. I don't mean to frighten or discourage you but it sjust happened to me and I really hope to inform you about what happens when you grow up and leave mom's house.

Pictures are a must!

Oh gosh, I had a long reply typed out for this but my computer refreshed and deleted it. Thanks for all the replys and for your concern. My mother and one of my coworkers ( Who has owned birds in the past) have offered to take in my birds should the need arise for however long is needed. I have plans to stay at home at least until I finish college and for however long I need afterwards. I have several college options in driving distance of my house so I can avoid dorms. I do have plans to go to Germany when I am 21 but my mother has offered to birdsit when that time comes. Sorry if this sounds rude at all, I just wanted to get the basic info down!

Re: I'm back

I didn't want to start a new thread for this. Does anyone have good aviary recomendations? It would be for inside, I was looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/PANEY-Aviary-...s%2C156&sr=1-5
It can't be much taller than that as my celing is quiet low.

Re: I'm back

So at first I couldn't touch Tango with a ten foot pole. If he was on me it was on his terms. Than I got him to use a perch so I could move him around. At this moment we are on shaky terms but I can get him to step up on my hand 75% of the time with out screaming and biting me. Tonight I actually made the most progress and he actually cuddled up to me a little. I still can't pet him with my hands but he doesn't freak when my cheek touches him accidentally.

The image is so low quality it hurts but it's what I've got. I believe that they did have him out quiet a lot but they only picked him up to put him away, so he thought that when I picked him up he would have to be put away.
